talk to me about poo...

DS is 6.5 mo and we've been BLW for about 3/4 weeks. In the last week or so he's started to 'get it' and now picks up whatever I put in front of him and takes it straight to his mouth and has a good old suck. Not much actual chewing or swallowing I don't think, and anything that breaks off in his mouth tends to be tongued out again, but there is the odd banana and broccoli evidence in his poo so some is getting down. I've given him some puree on occasion too, just sort of squirted it onto the finger foods.

I'm also giving him vitamins on the advice of HV and GP, although it tends to be when I remember so every couple of days I guess. I'm using the Boots own brand ones. He's EBF so apparently they advice vitamins from 6 mo as he's not getting the supplements that are in formula.

The last week or so he has had the most explosive green runny poos, several times a day. Accompanied by a lot of gas and a lot of straining. I decided it might be the vitamins so haven't given them for a few days, and yesterday there was less poo, but we're back to the runny green mess this morning. Will give it another few days to see it they go back to normal.

I don't think it can be because of what he's actually swallowing as its hardly anything. He's still getting plenty of breast milk, and he seems happy and well in himself although I think he may be teething, although I've thought that for the past two months... He's also waking up at night crying recently which I think might be the teething or just general growth/development spurt related.

Anyone else had this? Is this all part and parcel of weaning? Do you think its the vitamins? (I've thrown the leaflet with the side effects away..) Should I worry? Or just embrace this Delightful New Poo Phase?

My DS had lovely green jelly poo when he started teething. It's probably that. Explosive!!
