When to move onto an open cup?

My dd is nearly 17 months old. She has been happily using a sippy cup since she was 6 months old. She's also got a couple of the beakers (same as sippy cups but without the handles). She has also recent started to drink from a sports bottle top but I was wondering when I should be trying to get her to drink from an open top cup without the safety net of the no spill lid? How do I go about it without water going everywhere?

My dd (3rd child) has preferred an open top cup since she was around 16 months old, as she wants to be like her big siblings. She's great with it. Worth a try!

I let mine use an open cup with meals around that age but used lidded ones for out and about

DS is 15 months and has only ever used open cups. Water goes everywhere, when he wants it to! You could give it a try and see how your DD gets on.

You just let her try and she will get the hang of it. Plenty of people jsut go straight to open cups without ever using sippy cups. My 11 month old can use an open cup with help. He gets a little soggy but he gets just a soggy with a sippy cup!
