Baby rice: what's the verdict?

DD 6 mths - just started blw this week - so far she's enthusiastically gumming away at stuff and impressively gumming bites out of carrot and banana but swallowing little. There's no rush but she is hungry and growing - this week 4 feeds overnight (ebf). Is baby rice mixed with breastmilk good or bad? We've given it a go - after a feed - and it went down well. She didnt like it - it was cold though so I gave it 10 secs in microwaves so it was warmer and she loved it. That's prob really bad for the goodies in breast milk though?? Avoiding wheat, gluten and dairy as she has eczema and therefore (says HV) more at risk of allergies. If I have dairy it gives her the gripes anyway. Is baby rice worth it? TIA x

I never bothered with it. I would just mush up a sweet potato or carrot instead.

If she's hungry there are far more calories in your BM than in the baby rice. So if sleeping and growing are yours concerns, I not bother with the babyrice Smile

Oh and if your HV is concerned about the risk of allergies and you think she may be lactose intolerant, I'd take her to the GP and ask for some allergy testing.

Have you tasted baby rice? It's a good thickening agent but tastes horrid. Baby porridge is much much nicer. Or just do fruit and veg. Pear or apple always went down well with ds.

Made my LO's reflux a lot worse.

I just make good old fashioned rice pudding - pudding rice plus EBM or whole milk so I can eat some myself cooked until it's really soft, sweetened with mashed banana or apple purée. No point whatsoever in baby rice after 6 months.

He can eat loads of it and it won't make a jot of difference to how often he wakes at night, though...

I have had two dc and never ever used baby rice.

Far more interesting things to feed them ! :)

It's very handy for thickening sweet or savoury stuff.

And I have to admit to rather liking it Blush, especially with a nice bit of jam. But then again, I like semolina, tapioca and all milky puddings.
