Snack foods, and a very stupid question about sweetcorn

I never eat sweetcorn, I hate the stuff but most babies I've known seem to like it so I thought I'd try 11mo with it as a snack food. However, I have no idea how to make it - can it be eaten straight out of the can, or does it need to be heated first? Blush

On which note, any suggestions for easy snacks to help DD drop the afternoon bottle would be great. So far we have rice cakes, peas, raisins, banana. She eats yoghurts and fruit as part of both lunch and dinner so I don't really want to go overboard on more soft fruit. And I am a bloody terrible cook, I'm barely managing with making meals for her, so regularly cooking muffins and the like is probably out!

Tinned sweet corn can be eaten straight from the tin, or heated. It needs to be drained though. Get the one without added sugar/ salt if you can the normal stuff is addictive. You can also get fresh whole cobs and boil them then slice off the kernals, though I CBA. DS likes the baby ones that you can eat whole, either raw or steamed. Oh, frozen is good too. Very convenient and economical. No need to cook, just defrost at room temperature for half an hour before a meal.

I think you should look at higher fat/protein snacks rather than the carb ones - by 12 mo DD could open the fridge the get out what she wanted for a snack, and it was most often things like chicken fillets, hummus, cottage cheese, less often was it the fruit. This is quite understandable really as babies do need less carbs than adults as their energy needs are lower but their growing needs are higher - so feeding them carbs and fibre aren't really what they need - which is what's driving hunger.

So Eggs (they keep boiled in their shells in their fridge for awhile) or cheese etc.
