Hi all.

DD is 4mo and i get the impression she is ready to start weaning. Looking online for some help and all nhs or govmnt pages say not to do it until 6m and when baby can sit independently.

DD has always been like clockwork with her feeding routine, 210mls four hourly finishing every bottle. As she was finishing them we tried bumping it up to 240mls but she would still only drink 210. Now for the last couple of weeks she is hungry every 2.5-3 hrs and sometimes is drinking only 3 quarters of the bottle, sometimes finishing.

Obviously this is very hard to plan our day around and also is affecting her sleep routine (she doesntyet sleep through).

Can anyone advise on whether she sounds ready to wean and if so HOW THE HELL do i do this? DD is our first and none of my friends have kids so im totally clueless!!!

Personally I would just persevere with milk for now - feeding every 4 hours is quite a break at that age - I'd think 2 1/2 to 3 hours is more typical ( or even more frequent) she is probably having a bit of a growth spurt at that age aswell which can mess up feeding for a bit.

I wouldn't wean. My ds is my second baby and both have fed about every 2 hours. I'd just offer more milk - it doesn't really matter if they drink it all or not. Go with the flow! At 4 months their routine changes a lot anyway, nearly everyday!

And not sleeping through at 4 months is very very normal. Regardless of however many other people love to tell you their baby slept through from 2 days..... !

No tips - I just started today! He has been trying to grab bits of food for a few weeks now and watching me eat breakfast etc then playing with my plastic bowl/spoon. Today I offered him some apple puree for the first time and he grabbed the spoon and fed himself. Definately waiting till they are really interested seems sensible - and I think it helps to be very laid back about how much they actually eat to start with.
