Weaning

7 month old not interested...

I'm after some advice please... I've been offering my 7 month old solids for 6 weeks and she's just not interested. Tried lots of different purées and can sometimes coax in a couple of spoonfuls, but mostly she clamps her mouth shut and turns away. She's had bronchiolitis and 2 courses of antibiotics, so has been quite poorly, but all she really wants is milk. I've tried reducing her milk intake, but I'm worried she's going to lose weight if this persists. I'm feeling quite worried about it and unsure what to do. Haven't tried blw as a little frightened of it!! Any suggestions? Help please!!

Please stop worrying. Milk is really all she needs and if that's what she wants please don't reduce milk feeds, give her as much and as often as she needs or she will loose weight.

The milk has far more calories than most solids so it is much more important that she drinks the milk rather than take some purée. In fact there is some evidence that weaning at 7 months is more beneficial, so not eating solids won't hurt her.

If she is clamping her mouth shut and turning away she is giving a clear message, she's had enough and you shouldn't be trying to make her take ant more. It can be stressful when they are ill and off their food but try to remember the saying "food is for fun until you are one". At this age weaning is more about exploring taste and textures rather than replacing milk feeds.

What is it that worries you about blw? Could you look at it as tempting her with some food from your plate?

If she has been ill I wouldn't sorry too much as she prob just doesn't fancy eating.

Whats her usual routine? Am trying to remember what I did with dd at that age but it was 5yrs ago so its a bit hazy!!

Is she teething? My HV said to put teething gel on the gums before so your spoon didn't make it a uncomfy experience. I wouldn't cut the milk down though maybe keep trying or the BLW if that's something you would like.
