Weaning

Do I need to change feeding times?

My daughter is too young at mo for weaning as only 15 weeks but thinking about the process already n getting prepared. She at the mo feeds at 7am, 10.15am, 1.45pm, 5.15pm and 7.30pm. These are obviously not our usual meal times as we have lunch at 12 n dinner at 6 so how do I change her feeding times to suit ours without her starving and when would I fit milk feeds in around these times? Any hints or tips would be great.

Usual advice when you do start is offer food an hour after milk so they are not starving but tummy isn't overfull either. Don't worry about it not being at your normal meal times for the first few weeks. Going by that schedule I would be offering food once a day at either 11.15am or 2.45pm and play it by ear.

Don't reduce her milk at all, let her dictate feeds. When she seems happy taking one meal, introduce a second one at maybe 6pm or breakfast 8am. Be led by her appetite and don't worry if nothing substantial goes in for a few months. DS didn't eat much at all til nearly 10 months old.

And at your own mealtimes just give her some veg or whatever to play with and chew and spit out or let her steal it off your plate.

The advice is to offer milk an hour before solids but I never stuck to it so strictly, with your feeding and eating schedule I'd just wait until the 6 months and then stop offering her food from your plate at 12pm and then a few days later at 6pm as well Smile.

Plus in the next couple of months she will likely have changed that schedule anyway Smile
