BLW first meals

My dd is 22 weeks and so I'm starting think about weaning next month. I'd like to do BLW if she takes to it and have been reading the book.

I was wondering what people did for the very first few days/weeks of BLW. Did you start off with just a plate of a variety of fruit and veg and build up to introducing meat and carbs etc - if so, over what period of time? Or did you just start straight off with "they eat what you eat" and giving them proper meals (obviously baby friendly). I have a romantic notion of her sitting down and tucking into roast dinner for her first experience of food, but I somehow think that can't be quite right!!

And did you start straight away with three meals a day (I know she won't be actually eating much of the meal at first, but you know what I mean) or start with one and build up?

How long was it before your LO was actually "properly" eating? I guess this varies from baby to baby, but are we talking weeks or months?

Thanks for your help.

Pretty much straight away into the same meals. A roast dinner was one of her first meals, she did very well with roast potatoes, and she was properly eating within weeks. We went straight to multiple meals, but not 3, just when we were eating.

Agree with Fred DD was a complete spoon refuser yet would happily eat anything we ate. She was on a Sunday Lunch in the first week, you just have to watch the salt levels. Low salt stock cubes are availble in most places these days though.

If what you are eating is a little spicy, you can always tone it down with a little creme fraiche if she prefers.

Just remember that the current advice is to offer LOs milk, whichever they are usually given, about an hour before offering solids.

Nearly 6 month old here and just started with blw. He just has what we are having if he is awake when I eat.
Bfast: porridge or yoghurt or toast plus fruit. Scrambled egg. Sausage... Oh & He has fruit purée rather than honey in/on the toast or yog.
Lunch - steamed whole carrot, hummus, toast, pitta, fruit, mash potato.
Showed no interest in broccoli....
Fruit tends to be apple, pear, mango or banana.

We started off with bfast only every day. Now it depends when he is awake if he gets another meal.

I keep reminding myself food is just for fun until one.
Good luck!

Well we started early - about 5 months - so just gave DD some bits of fruit and veg to play with to keep her busy while we were eating. Then we went on holiday just before she hit 6 months and offered her some fish and bread and things. When we got back I just started her on meals. She now has 3 meals a day at nearly 7 months and is absolutely loving it. I can't recommend BLW enough although do prepare yourself for the inevitable almighty mess that awaits you

Enjoy!
