Weight gain

I had my dd weighed yesterday and she has only put 8oz on in four weeks and fallen just below her line. I am really upset as she has gained consistantly since she was born and I feel so responsible as its gone down hill since weaning. Am really struggling to get the balance of food and milk right. I've been advised to add protein so tried cauli cheese today and she just screamed so resorted to vege ' no calories 'puree and a petit filous yoghurt. Can not see an end to this constant battle. She is however taking ready brek in the morning now which is an improvement and managed a whole rice cake!!! Am I just expecting too much? Please help someone as feel a complete failure.

How old is she?

Would steer clear of petit filous - they're just sugar. Try natural yog (with fruit puree for variety).

Don't worry too much about centile lines if she's happy and thriving - wet and dirty nappies, etc.

Please don't turn eating into a battle - it's no fun for anyone and you'll set her up to have issues with food if you fight her now.

She's six and half months. Full of sugar really? So many people have recommended them. Thanks for the tip!! I know what your saying and trying my best to stay calm. I have been known to go into the lounge and jump up and down returning to the kitchen smiling!!! Just so worried she isnt getting enough or maybe she is? She never cries between feeds and is happy and content, maybe Im trying to get that extra spoonful in when shes simply had enough? Stupid question but how can you tell if they are full or just not liking the food and how can I get the balance of milk and food right? Used to be quite intelligent now my brain has gone to mush just like DD's food!!!

Have been told to offer more protien so cheese sauces, chicken etc I also have recipe books Annabel Karmel and Lorraine Kelly who's ingedients include butter, flour, pasta, lentils as well as vege and fruit. Avocado's and bananas are supposed to be good too. Thing is forevermore is getting DD to eat them!! How old is your DD and what does she weigh?

she is 7 months now, but was born 1 month early. 4 weeks agao she weighed 16lb 4ozs
sh eids off the scale for hieght so looks very slender.
she is always battling with constipation too, so that reduces food intake too. i am back at work now so feel so worried that no one else will take the time to ensure food intake like i did

Would have been delighted if DS could put on 2oz in a week at 6 1/2 months.... I got hassled by HVs about DS's weight despite him being bright and alert and smiley, & hitting his little milestones so.... I stopped getting him weighed. He's still doing well (though at his 8 month check, still isn't gaining much weight) and I've stopped worrying. He's on BLW, eating whatever we have, without low-fat though.

Re: the constipation. Have you tried dried apriocots? They're usually pretty effective and babies adore them (unsurprisingly!)

My DD suffers alot from constipation too and was told by HV to put either fresh OJ in water or Prune juice, or even prunes in her cereal or yoghurt? Haven't tried yet. Not so sure about the OJ. She is waking in the night at the moment (not hunger) and when I get her up in the morning there is poo in her nappy. Now seeing her go in the day there is no way she could go at night without waking,so thinking this could be the cause, the thing is this has only happened since weaning. She has quite alot of potato(one of the only things she does eat) and alot of babyrice with fruit at tea time don't know whether this is the cause. I've always known I was a bit of a control freak but controlling when DD poos is taking it a bit far don't you think but want to get to the bottom of the night waking (pardon the pun!!!)

I am convinced that iron fortified cereals caused my baby's constipation. But she really liked cereal so I started mixing the fortified cereal with Demeter oat cereal (not iron fortified, available at health food stores) and we didn't have any more problems with it.
