Has anyone taken a 10 month old on holiday and if yes what did you feed him/her? I am just starting stage 2 of weaning (we are going in June - he is 6 months now) and ds will only eat my own purees/chopped up food - turns his nose up at jars. We will have a kitchen/fridge which should make it easier but I don't really want to spend every evening cooking from scratch. Any easy ideas for meals? If we go out to a restaurant what will he be able to eat?

We went to France when DS was 10/11 months.

At lunchtimes, which was when we were usually eating out, he tended to have finger foods. I would have bits in the changing bag with us and he also had some bits off our plates - lots of bread, cheese, cucumber, breadsticks, ricecakes, fruit, yoghurt etc.

For his tea we were back at the gite where we had a kitchen (but no inclination to cook!). We took jars and breakfast cereal with us for the whole 2 weeks (went by car so this wasn't a problem) -at home DS had always had freshly prepared food but he didn't mind jars if out and about luckily. Sometimes I would add bits and pieces of fresh ve etc to them depending on what we were eating.

A lot of European babyfoods do have added salt so keep an eye on labels. However if you're going to a resort type area you are bound to be able to get brands like Heinz, Cow and gate etc

Have a lovely hol!

Thanks for these replies. I think we'll take packet cereal and some jars with us. Have a great time and good luck in Portugal ButtonMoon.

our two had spanish baby food with no problems. I tended to stick to fruit purees as they don't have salt in. they also ahd a lot of bananas. Smile

Are you going all inclusive? We took our 11mth to spain. As a precaution I took a few jars and cereals with us.But we went all inclusive which was great as they did a buffet type thing so loads of finger foods for ds to try.By the end of the two weeks he was able to to eat a whole range of foods chopped in small pieces. It also gave me a break from trying to think of inventive meals for him to try. Ds tended to eat alot of fruit, pasta dishes, cheeses', salads, vege and potatoe dishes. He was spoilt for choice.

freeze up a few portions in tubs and take them with you - they'll defrost on the journey but will still be cool enough to keep ok in a fridge for a few days. then supplement with finger foods as the others say and don't get too hung up about his veg count!

We took DS to Italy when he was 8 months. We took Weetabix with us as that was a mainstay but apart from that he ate pretty much the same as us.

We were in a house and he had quite a bit of pasta, fruit, yoghurts - the same sort of food as he'd been eating at home.

We did try to buy a jar one day but it looked like pureed spam. Revolting! He didn't get to try it.
