Hi I have been weaning dd slowly since 20wks and she is now working up to 3 small helpings of fruit/veg per day

Up until now I have been tying in her solids with a milk feed but now she will be having "breakfast, lunch and dinner" I wonder if I should seperate milk feeds from solids

If anyone has a rouinte/schedule/timetable of when they roughly do the solids and milks I would be really grateful

I was thinking somthing like

bottle and breakfast 8 am - she never wants anything before this so I guess I will be doing them togther
bottle 11am (before nap at 12)
lunch 1pm (after nap)
bottle 3pm
dinner 5pm
bottle at bedtime and then 10pm

am I way off? Just worried this may lead to her snacking throughout the day and never actially being that hungry

i am also curious about this and wonder what is the norm....

seems like your babe has a lot of bottles?? how much does she drink and eat each time?

giving water with meals is ideal (except for the milk withbreakfast cereal). this also prevents constipation.

i am trying the following with 27 week old (5 weeks premature)...but she is definetly the boss:

bottle at 7am (5ish ozs)
breakfast/brunch at 10-11am + water
bottle at 2-3 (6 oz)
tea at 5pm + water
bottle after bath at 7-8 pm(7-9ozs), then she sometimes has a small feed (2-3ozs) at 1-2am (but can do without it if i stick a dummy in her mouth)

however my dd has a small apetite and i struggle with getting her to take 20oz/day (inclusive of whats in breakfast cereal). hence why i am sticking with 2 meals a day till then and allowing the 1am feed.

i think the amount of bottles is fine gingernutlover!
ds still has 4 a day and he is a year old!

i never tied his bottles in with his solids

he has:

7.30ish bottle
8.30/9 breakfast
11ish bottle
12.30 lunch
3ish bottle
5ish dinner
7ish bottle

My ds is breastfed so I have no idea how much milk he gets, but has been on solids for 5 weeks now, and last week he got himself in to a routine of 3 meals a day,
breakfast usually porridge,
lunch usually veg then fruit and yogurt then milk,
milk mid afternoon,
dinner chicken casserole or fish and veg, or similar, then fruit and yogurt or similar, then milk,
full milk feed before bed at 7ish

so, milk before breakfast but after the other meals of the day, a midafternoon milk feed on it's own, and milk before bed on it's own. Dinner is always a protein or similar food, lunch can sometimes just be veg, or something simple like fish. I offer him water with every meal, at first hardly took much but yesterday took 40ml and today about 60ml.

I had no idea either but when ds started waking through the night again for feeds, then woke twice and was starving, that's when I realised he was filling himself up on milk before the food and wasn't getting enought from the solids. I had been too concerned about reducing his milk, all about the iron etc but realised he was quick to let me know he was hungry.

wow! maybe i should be offering milk after the meals not just water...

dd dropped her night bottle at about 12 weeks (fingers crossed) and has had 5 bottles of around 4-6oz a time since. I forgot to mention she has her tommee tippee beaker with water after solids - she mainly plays with it at the moment but seems to get really excited about the beaker so I will keep offering and I'm sure she'll get the hang!

I think I will try the schedule I suggested and see how it goes, she is still only having 1 cube of fruit/veg at each meal, HV advised to increase at 24 weeks but what does everyone else do. I worry too about her getting the 20oz a day as she is a PITA to feed so all her frozen purees have milk in them to add that little bit extra.

Like you I was initially doing solids and milk together but that was largely due to timings with naps. Once ds started going a little longer between naps it became possible to separate them and our routine looks very similar to what you plan on doing (but without the 10pm feed - we dropped that at about 24 weeks). ds (now 8 months) generally does 6-10 cubes at both lunch and dinner, plus about 25oz across the day.

hi long legs

I have a set of baby cubes from blooming marvellous with were £3.50 for 10. They are little ice cube sized pots with integral lids which sit on a tray and are freezer, dishwasher and microwave safe. Also good for taking out a little portion with you. The only problem is mine have started ti split around the top after just 4-5 uses so I have started using normal ice trays - lots of different hitngs like this on ebay though

Brilliant, thanks for that. Its so good to be able to 'talk' to other mums - after sifting through the site I don't feel like a complete b*tch mother!! This weaning lark is okay though, my ds seems to want to eat anything!

yes - my dd has gobbled everything except sweetcorn - but she did have a cold so probably will eat it next time.

my dd eats everything i give her, except for pumpkin or pears.
i always give her solids before she has a bottle. is that right?
her routine is -
7.30ish - breakfast and bottle
11.30ish - dinner and bottle
3.30ish - tea and bottle
7.30ish - bottle before bedtime

I was wondering that too, bottle first or food first. If he has food 1st then bott he tends to chuck up.... he still loves to just suck and suck on his bottle...... I feel pretty guilty when I take it away from him....
