Fowey - Things to do in and around ?

We are off to Golant just outside Fowey in Cornwall on Friday for a week and apart from The Eden project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, can anyone suggest any other places to visit locally or a reasonable distance drive away.

We have a 3.5 yo dd who is quite happy to tromp around NT properties aswell as child orientated places and activities.

Thanks

At that age (and as good weather is bound to occur now that schools are going back) your DD will probably enjoy a few days on the beach. I'd recommend on the Fowey side of the river, Polridmouth (no facilities but there used to be a nice cream tea place by the NT car park. ON the Polruan side there are lovely beaches at Lantic Bay (very steep walk down) and Lantivet Bay (also a walk but less steep). Again no facilities apart from a NT car park at the top but these are magical when the weather is decent. Our DSs used to enjoy the Lappa Valley Railway/amusement park near Newquay as a special day out at that age, but they also enjoyed the ferry across from Fowey to Polruan.

L love Fowey and will retire there (in my dreams).

Second the recomendation of Lantic bay - you could have it to yourselves - also Lansallos and Lantivet Bays are great for rockpools and wet sand. Ferry great fun and Polruan is very pretty place to spend an afternoon.

Wooly monkey sanctuary (Willy Minkeys in our house) at Looe is fun for kids. Also Seal Sanctuary at Gweek - bit further afield. Sae Life ay Newquay good for a wet day.

Lost gardens of Heligan (N TRust) are truly beautiful and wild in places.

A trip upriver on a fishing boat is good fun adn you get to see the clay quarry at work which is mildly interesting. (can you tell dh loved it )Have a lovely time. i am
