Ive just booked to go to Padstow in the summer hols..... have I made a mistake???

Dp has been harping on about Padstow for weeks, have been trawling the net looking for some nice accom and have found a cottage/town house by the harbour.

I booked it as it had taken ages to find something available- have just done a search on here for padstow and the words- 'Boden' and 'Act posh' have appeared many times...... oh dear- thats just not us- dont get me wrong, we are not peasants- But Dp resembles Grant Mitchell and at the moment I feel a close resemblence with Cilla Battersby.
Will we stick out? shall I cancel and book rhyl instead??

Is it really stuck up??

Not been for years but it does have the reputation of being very posh these days. Its beautiful though and if you've booked a cottage you can avoid all of that if you want. Theres loads of nice beaches etc close by.

I don't think it's that bad. Quite a few expensive restaurants and horrendous for parking, as fortyplus says. But still a very nice place...

Well - it does have that reputation - and certainly if you go on the little foot ferry you will see a lot of Boden and hear a lot of Ya's !!

However - they are just getting on with their hols too - and I really don't think it will bother you !! We saw loads MORE normal people when we were there !

Actually lucky you managing to find a place in padstow - I have failed meserably !

You have got to have fish and chips from Rick Stein's chippie - by the station !!

PS. If you decide not to go CAT me and maybe we could buy it off you !!

I really like the area around Padstow. It is really busy though as Rick Stein has taken over a bit. But go to some of the beaches around and about - Harlyn Bay is nice and there are lots of other little places. Also go on the ferry across to Rock (if it still runs - I have memories from childhood...!) lovely beaches.

scatterbrain- Harbour holidays have got a few places left- mainly for w/c 25th aug.

to be honest, im glad we are going, it looks beautiful- and I'd much rather that than mixing with stags and hens in newquay.

LAdymuck- sorry, i didnt mean anything like that- I read old posts and it was made out to sound like Kensington and Chelsea on Sea, I just wanted clarification if it really was that bad! - im more worried what people think of us !!!

scatterbrain - Try Crantock - tiny village much quieter than Padstow but beach is better and there are a couple of good pubs.

A short walk along the cliff is the National Trust beach at Polly Joke - water worn caves, a little stream coming down on to the beach that you can dam and the sand is veryy pretty as it's made of crushed shells. Of course, Padstow is just a few miles away so you can still visit.

Oh we love Padstow, we go to that area every year, normally stay in Trebetherick.

The little ferry from Rock to Padsto still runs and the ice-cream shop on the harbour is a must, I'd go to Padstow just for the ice-cream.

There's lots of places to go around there indoor & out. And its not that posh, if I enjoy it can't be, I don't have a posh bone in my body!

how old are your children tiredemma, as can really recommend the Camel Trail, bike trail, you can hire the bikes from Padstow, it's excellent.

Our kids love Padstow, so do we!! Lots to do and only a short drive from Newquay if you fancy wearing them out with bright lights and surfing etc. Get onto the Newquay tourist board, you'll find tons to do!!

The beach at Bedruthan steps is fab at low tide - but there's a massive flight of steps to climb on the way back, so not recommended for under 3s

Padstow is lovely ? I have my fondest childhood holiday memories from there ? Harlyn Bay and Padstow it?s self.

Went back for my 30th and was amazed to find it the same.

Took DS there 3 years ago ; was just as amazed it was still the same.

If you?ve under 5?s don?t even think about going to the RS restaurant for evening meal ? not under 5 friendly .

There?s a really good sealife centre in Newquay if weather is not too good.

And I thought ?The Eden project? was fantastic?.well worth the drive.

But the best part of any holiday is that YOU ARE ON HOLIDAY ? NOBODY KNOWS YOU ? boden schmoden- who cares?.

Harlyn Bay is lovely if a bit busy at times, safe, shallow water and some lovely rock pools. Booby's bay is a hidden gem - I'll have to make this message self destruct afterwards! It's on the way to trevose head.Turn right just after the place where you pay to park to find the car park, then follow your nose to the sea. You have to get a tide timetable as it is non existent at high tide but heaven at low tide.


Get your kids (and yourself come to that) some of those rubbery shoes cos of the ruddy WEAVER FISH!!!!!!

Erm, just one thing though ?Cottage/town house near the harbour ? if this is a fairly new build then note: most of them ARE near the harbour- tis a pretty big harbour as far as harbours go, but the last time I went it was in a cottage/town house ?near the habour??.yup it was, but what it didn?t mention was that it was about 1000 miles above the harbour!!! Padstow has some pretty steep hills around ? not wishing to put a damper on things, just thought you should be aware/prepared.

No mistake made in my opinion. Lovely place as is most of Cornwall, Camel Trail cycle track is great and hiring bikes for all the family (trailers, seats anything really) is cheap & cheerful and at the other end there is a great park in Wadebridge.

Lots of other towns to visit as well and lots to do. We live in Cornwall and have been down there many times, daytrips & caravanning. Great part of the country.

Don't worry. It'll be fab. There will be all sorts in Cornwall that time of year, you won't stick out at all.

There is just tons to do around there too. The Camel Trail is great, loads of beaches to visit, Crealy and Lappa Valley Railway were favourites with dsd (10) and dd (3).

We're camping just near Crantock for a fornight this year. We had 10 days there last year and just didn't want to leave!
