God, I know what you mean about chintz.

There's The Big Cottage Company and what I thought of it here

or we've stayed in 2 of these, great quality houses

and although I haven't stayed in any of these there are lots of lovely houses on The Big Domain.

Where do you want to go and how many of you?

I've used rural retreats (excellent) and helpful holidays helpful holidays (have very good website in which you can be VERY specific about your requirements!)I'd recommend both companies.

We use Welcome Cottages or Cottages4you. I know what you mean about the decor in some places, but I tend to ignore that aspect wherever possible and look for comofrt and amenities over style, lol! There are non chintzy though if you look hard enough

Classic Cottages are fab - just the West Country though. We've used them several times and never been disappointed. And the brochure is like a Boden catalogue - all arty shots of children on beaches, and wellies abandoned in doorways with Cath Kidston accessories glimpsed in the cottage...

Helloooo! How's ds?

Rural Retreats (www.ruralretreats.co.uk, can't do links!) have some gorgeous chintz-free cottages. Not particularly cheap mind.
