The men all run around in kilts up here.

Everyone is ginger, too.

And all we eat is haggis, all we drink is whisky and all it does is rain.

(Well, the last bit is true actually...)

(And possibly the second last bit aswell!)

Oh no, they definitely exist expat. I stayed in one up at Loch Insch last year and there's some quite near me on the banks of loch lomond.

I'm a west coaster I'm afraid, not familar with Edinburgh or the east. Well I did go to Aberdeen university many moons ago, but my student budget didn't stretch to luxuries other than copious amounts of booze.

Sure someone can help you though...

When I was wroking in Boston for a summer someone(an American post-grad student) asked me which part of Australia was Scotland in. Oh, and did we have TV yet!?

John Logie Baird would be turning in his grave!

i am scottish so i know the stereotypes and cliches well - i also have a ginger son! as for the rain, it hasn't stopped here for weeks...
although we have lived here so long, we have never holidayed locally so have no knowledge of holiday accomodation, hence my question.
(ignore my name, it's a long story..)

Haggis is SO minging!

DH won't even eat it.

He says it's boffin, whatever that is.

DD1 likes it, though. She's a FREAK, tho. She looks nothing like me, she talks funny, too .

Sorry TEP, didnt mean to hijack... am racking my brains for nice lodges for you. How about Perthshire? Or around Loch Lomond - loads of holiday lodges around there.

expatinscotland · 07/12/2006 00:27

It's the boak, haggis.

Sorry! End hijack.

You won't get many lodges in fife but Perthshire, Loch Lomond and further up into the highlands there is more choice. Loads of nice cottages .

Report
myturn · 07/12/2006 00:29

LMAO! You are way more Scottish than me obviously. Haven't heard of 'boak' for ages.

Skribble - you ought to meet my BIL. You'd LOVE him.

Oh, I've missed MN...

No gingers here.

But both girls have a shade I call 'Scottish brown', b/c I see it so often here. It is the colour of chesnuts, w/goldy streaks in it.

does your dh perhaps mean bowfing, expat?
i really think haggis is delicious, just oats and meat (approximately) and spices.

KrissKringleKokeshi · 07/12/2006 00:47

Also sitting here trying boffin/bowfing in an Edinburgh accent to see if you're right Aitch!

Is that naturally occurring "Scottish brown" then expat? My hair's like colour but I don't know many others my age that don't have a little chemical help with their hair tones!

Report
whensantagotstuckupAITCHimney · 07/12/2006 00:47

perhaps it would have helped if i'd said 'pure bowfing?'
