Where to stay in London??

I know it has been done before but I can't figure out the best area to stay in London. Coming for a weekend and taking DS to Natural History Museam etc. I want to shop. Want to be near child-friendly restaurants etc.

So - around Oxford St or Kensington? Anywehre else? (Can't beleive I used to LIVE in London but can't remember where would be best to stay!!)

Got to go and medicate a coughing DS but will check back later.

sorry, not travel, but look under weekend breaks. Too bad there wasn't a way to link these all up. There are about 3 threads on london hotels.

I stayed here when I first arrived in the UK - fab hotel - close to Hyde park a very short walk to the tube - fab restuarants in the vicinity. Found it very reasonable and owners - fab!!

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Kensington (not the Kensington Forum, thats further up the road.)and it was absolutely fab. Its almost opposite the tube station and on the main bus route in to central london. The concierge were fantastic and the morning buffet breakfast is to die for.

The NHM is just around the corner and harrods etc a short bus ride away.

Our room was split on two levels with a spiral staircase connecting them. Our kids were downstairs whilst we were upstairs - almost brought back memories of weekends away pre kids!

Highly recommended and we can't wait to go back next year.
