Ideas for June 2015

I'm trying to work out a budget/if we can afford a holiday in the UK next year after DC3 is born to visit GPs/other family. They live in a grim town in the north that I don't fancy wasting 2 weeks vacation in. I'm hoping they'll be happy to drive down somewhere nice for a cottage stay with us and would like to plan a bit. We'd be happy to fly them to where we live, but FIL won't come at all, and MIL may not.

As my DB also lives down south I'd like to make it easy for his family to come and see us also. I'm thinking either Cornwall or the other coast. Which is the nicer? I've been on the West coast previously, DH hasn't, but haven't visited the East coast at all.

We'd be looking at 4 adults, 1 teenager and 3 DC 7 and under (1 baby). I was looking at a few cottages that sleep 6, is this normally okay? To not have specific bed for the 2 youngest? The youngest 3 DC will sleep in with us normally anyway.

We'd like something near to the beach as possible, and just want a bucket and spade holiday, rockpooling, beach walks, a few pints in the pub, very easy and laid back.

Any recommendations for areas to stay in and cottages to rent?

TIA!

there are 8 of you and a cottage sleeping 6 might be cheaper but it will be too small and cramped. there will only enough chairs and seats for 6 people not 8. Its also against the fire regulations to have more people in a cottage than the number specified. where are you expecting 2 of the children to sleep if not in beds? you need to look for something sleeping 7 ideally with 3 or 4 bedrooms and no sofa beds in the lounge. it will cost a bit more than something sleeping 6 but the extra room will be well worth it for the family arguments it saves. we have stayed HERE a few times. very family friendly with a pool and farm animals. they are just outside Looe. we prefer this coast, less touristy and quieter imo. also have a look at the cornwall tourist board website.

Thanks mummy That looks lovely and plenty to do for the DC on site!

Well my 2 small ones sleep with me now, and when DC3 arrives, pretty sure they'll be in with me too. So i'd expect that they'd just bunk in with me and DH on holiday. But I see your point about the other stuff. I'll take a look more at the link you sent.

If a property says it takes 6 it is not just beds, it might only have enough crockery and cutlery for six. I wouldn't risk skimping on the size as you might be very cramped and under-equipped.

I am also confused when you say "Cornwall or the other coast". UK has a lot of coastal areas. Which other coast were you thinking of?

Sorry I meant the south east coast. Seem to have found something on owners direct just north of tintagel, 100m to pub and beach, perfect! Is hat area generally nice? Just want mooching around and will do some day trips to the villages around the coast

the north coast tends to be a bit busier than the south ime. tintagel castle well worth a visit and also bude or down to Polzeath where the beach is good. there is also the big sheep attraction up there. haven't been for a while as mine are now too old but always filled a day for us. Padstow and St Ives are ok if its not the height of summer otherwise they are rammed with people and not very child friendly. if you are going to the north at tintagel then that does mean the dreaded a30 car park sorry road. try and avoid at peak times if at all possible. another reason why we like the SE cornwall side - you go on the a38 and avoid the a30 altogether.
