Quiet beaches and nice cafes near Newquay

We're going to Newquay for the first time this weekend and would love to find some more quietish beaches, preferably with rockpools. Also, could anyone recommend nice places to stop for a snack or cream tea that is suitable for a family.

thanks,

I personally love Trevone which is past watergate bay or Porthcothan.

The National Trust cafe at Bedruthan steps is nice and you can walk down to the beach- it's steep though, so not good if you have a buggy. But there are plenty of beaches along that coast road from Newquay to the Padstow area. Have a look as you drive along and stop if it looks quiet. They all have rock pools, but you'll need to check the tide times as they are only accessible at low tide. Watch it if the tide is coming in- you can get cut off.

We went to Trevone beach on a nice day and it was rammed with people. I don't think it will be easy to find a quiet beach in Cornwall if the weather is good.

mawgan porth is lovely with caves and rock pools, but I've never been in august - I doubt there's a quiet beach in Cornwall in august tbh.

can second the NT cafe at bedruthan steps - great cream teas!

Thank everyone, I suppose I'll aim for crowded but not overcrowded beaches =)
I'll try out the national trust cafe, I do love a cream tea.

Agree bedruthan, spectacular views and lovely tea room. Nice restaurant and scones etcat xWatergate bay hotel in Watergate bay but busy beach. Crantock beach beautiful. Lovely seafood restaurant on newquay harbour, the boathouse lobster etc. Have heard the beached lamb in newquay good. Headland hotel nice for drinks or lunch stop off. Lots and lots of fab beaches and nice restaurants in area. Cocktails at the scarlet hotel if child free
