Hotel on wild and lovely coast?!

I am planning a three night trip away on my own, this will be my first solo break for about eight years after having children.

I'm after a hotel on the coast, preferably with a bit of a wild landscape and close to a train station as I'm not planning on taking the car.

I want to walk, look at the sea and generally mooch about. I can spend up to about £100 a night.

I haven't travelled much at all in the UK so I am a bit stumped for places to go so am hoping mumsnet can help!

I don't think this really qualifies as wild, but if I wanted to get the train somewhere by the coast on my own that I could stay and mooch round I would get the train into St Ives. Lots of hotels, shops and nice coast within walking distance. On second thoughts though I think Whitby fits the wild and lovely bill better and has a centrally placed train station - yes, choose Whitby.

Ooh what a lovely plan! Yes I'd second Whitby or robin hood's bay, which is gorgeous - but I'm not sure there are hotels in RHB - lots of B&B's though. Or definitely do the coastal walk from Whitby to RHB as that's lovely - lots of wild coast and great views!

Northumberland has wonderful wild beaches and a railway along the coast. I can't recommend any hotels though, but maybe start by searching "alnmouth".

You can't get wilder than Knoydart - train to Mallaig then a boat.

I would suggest Yorkshire or Northumberland - the latter is about as unspoilt as you can get ime and feels away from it all.

Have you thought of Berwick? Or North Berwick. On east coast main line and lovely. Whitby is a good suggestion. Northumberland is stunning. Anywhere on the Northumberland Coast would be lovely. St Andrews, Oban, Aire in Scotland.

Lytham St Annes is meant to be nice (never been myself).

St Abbs Head area is gorgeous! Cliff walks, rocky coves. Not sure how easy it's to get to without a car.

One of my favourite views is from The Quay Hotel and Spa in Deganwy.Lythan is lovely,although not so rugged.The Grand is my favourite there.

Seahouses (train to Chathill), Watergate Bay up from Newquay (bus every 30 minutes or fly to St. Mawgan), Whitby, Porthmadog (good bus links into Snowdonia).

If you can beg borrow or steal a foldup bike I'd go for the Northumberland coast. Just don't cross the A1!

Culzean Castle in Ayrshire has some amazing bedrooms looking out over the sea.

Sorry, just noticed your budget, Culzean is very much a special occasion hotel so out of your price-range (and mine!).

Old Library Lodge and Restaurant, Arisaig. I have only eaten there but it has good reviews on trip advisor, is very handy for a station and lovely spot. Plockton is another lovely coastal spot with good accommodation and food and wonderful scenery but also on a train line. An advantage of these two places is that the train journey is also spectacular.
