We are planning to go away for a long weekend early next year for a romantic birthday/five year anniversary. The plan is to leave the sprog with the in-laws in Nottingham. I have no idea where to start looking or how far away to go. Can anyone give some recommendations please?

Hiya.....I've just returned from a lovely 1st time visit to Croatia. Is 2.20hrs away. Cheap (£60) flight with Easyjet. Not in the Euro so not too expensive. Beautiful. Was based on the Island of Brac. Apartment facing the Marina. Could give you the name of it if you fancy?

Cambridge isn't too far, and lots going on. Or rural East Anglian for a real change of pace?

We did abroad with DD but she was a very good baby. DS we finally managed to get a whole weekend away this year when he was 5. DD we went to Venice and Budapest, this year we went to Devon.

In the uk try Bradley house in the coltwold, otherwise Prague or Budapest. The dc's will be fine, don't loose your sex appeal, it's about balance so good job for getting away.

Nearest airport to Nottingham is East Midlands I think. It has Ryanair flights to Girona which is seriously picturesque and cheap. Great long weekend destination.

Bath is lovely for a weekend break. There are some lovely 5* b&b's within walking distance of the centre. Lots of history and beautiful architecture, and the thermae spa is a fun treat, especially after dark in the rooftop pool when it's cold enough for steam to rise
