Aviemore - Hilton or MacDonald

We're thinking of going to Aviemore with our 2 pre-schoolers. We're a bit stuck trying to decide between staying either at one of the MacDonald hotels or the Hilton Coylumbridge. Any recommendations?

Macdonald is in the centre, never stayed there but think pool etc is nicer and obviously nearer restaurants etc. Advantage of Coylumbridge is that you can literally walk/ cycle out of the door and not need the car for days if that is what you like. There is quite a lot on site, pool etc is a bit dated though to say the least. We go every year to one of the lodges and I'm looking forward to lots of bike rides and walks with child seat and carrier, DD will be nearly two.

Have you been to Aviemore area before?

We've been to coylumbridge and it was great.
It has a lot of things for children on site. It's two minutes to centre of Aviemore.
There's a great swimming pool and soft play for kids. Also a fantastic park.
My SIL is going to macdonald with her older dcs as there is more for them there. Buy with younger kids I'd go to coylumbridge.

Colyumbridge also has a big soft play at the end of the carpark. Pool is ok, not great. Food is ok. Hotel a bit dated.

Personally, I'd go onto a page like Trivago and see who is doing the best deal. We looked for last weekend and the MacDonald was £90 a night but Hilton was £300! For £300 I can get Gleneagles!

Not sure how you looked at prices for Hilton but we're paying 400 for a family suite for four, three nights, dinner bed and breakfast. Not sure where you could stay cheaper than that! Coylumbridge isn't fancy but it's good with kids- last Easter we did one day skiing, one day at landmark and one day cycling. My ds (8) reckons it's his all time favourite holiday- better than skiing, Disney or any euro destination!!

Oh, I have been to the hilton before for excellent prices. I just think that last weekend was tricky because of half term.

We've stayed a week at McDonald using Tesco Club card vouchers. We had bed and breakfast and two rooms ( one for the boys) although the place was a bit dated the service was excellent, the breakfast was grea. I lovd he swimming pool and the steam room. I liked the shops in the Mc Donald complex and it was handy. We were able to use a bike tore for our mountain bikes.

I've also stayed in the McDonald appartments on the site, they were good as well.

We have stayed in the Cairngorm Hotel in Aviemore several times and it was great. We haven't been in a few years but I believe they have extended it now too. It's right in the middle of the main street and has parking.

The Coylumbridge Hilton is still my kids favourite hotel in the world :o

And they are now 13 and 12 and very well travelled......

We have been probably about 7 or 8 times - pool is dated but we still love it.
