holiday dilemma

Just back from a disastrous half term break at a very large commercial UK holiday park.

While there oven malfunctioned while cooking kids tea; controls it turned out were broken and smoke gushed out, in part (as it later turned out) because lodge had not been cleaned between visits properly and the oven was disgustingly dirty. Fire alarm triggered obviously.

We reported it but their initial response was that they were too busy to attend that day and we should try to turn the oven off if we could, leave all the windows open to keep clearing the smoke and manually override the fire alarm so that the kids could go to sleep next door.

Am I mad to think this as a response is off-the-chart irresponsible?

We could not bear to put kids to sleep having deliberately overridden fire alarm with a known problem at a gas applicance pouring smoke next door and eventually they were persuaded to send someone to make the appliance safe that evening.

Dilemma is, do I leave it there or do I inform fire authorities? If that is their general attitude it is only a matter of time until there is a tragedy which I do not want on my conscience. I was promised they would investigate and send an email the following day - which pointedly ducked the safety issues with the incident when it arrived.

Report or bury head in sand?

report it. not enough people do in my opinion. also are they star rated through the visit Britain or some other scheme? it will say so on their website. if they are then report it to them as well. holiday places are often more worried about losing a star on their rating than a fire officer visit.
