Week's holiday in W Yorkshire (Haworth) - what's good to do/see?

November, rented cottage, no kids. We have the following on our list so far -

Bolton Abbey
Skipton
Harrogate
Saltaire
Haworth for Bronte Museum etc.

What else is good - both outdoors for fine Grin days and indoors for not so fine days. Also any recommendations for a good curry house in the Haworth/Keighley area.

TIA

There's Mumtaz in Bradford for a truly excellent curry (IMO anyway Grin). I live in Haworth and November is always a nice time with the Christmas market and I do believe there will be a steam punk weekend in November, I would recommend at least one trip on the steam trains. Leeds is fab for shopping. Bradford city center is a bit of a hole to be honest, but the Media Museum is worth visiting too. Hope this helps. Smile

How lovely.
Deffo go to Bolton abbey. It's so lovely there.
I grew up in keighley and go back to a place nearby every year.
I miss the proper hills.

We live in flat Cambridgeshire now.

The Keighley and Worth Valley steam Railway. Lots of fun and there's real ale on the trains!

There's all sorts on this link www.visitbradford.com/events/ Haworth is on there as part of Bradford. Though Bradford city centre IS a bit of a hole (we're working on that, the locals are not impressed either).

Thanks for all your replies - Humpday, lots of walking on the cards weather permitting.

Phantom - Have a bit of a thing about Steampunk festival. Would have loved to have gone but unfortunately we're there early Nov, and festival is later in month.

DH loves a good steam railway. A good steam railway with real ale should be a winner........

Ilkley Moor Baht'at! Walk up to White Wells, followed by afternoon tea at Betty's if you are feeling flush.

If you are a true tight Yorkshire lass, walk right across Ilkley moor to Dick Hudsons.
Five rise locks in Bingley is worth a look.
Salts Mill in Saltaire, David Hockney exhibition, cafe and lovely shop.

No idea about activities but I'm sitting here scoffing coconut and salted caramel chocolate truffles from the fancy chocolate shop on Haworth main street and they are incredible Grin

Make sure you pop in!

Ilkley
Otley
Leeds - great for shopping, but also some really interesting museums/places of interest to visit (Kirkstall Abbey and the Abbey House museum, Thackray medical museum, Henry Moore Institute, Roundhay Park Tropical House)
If it is sunny, a drive into the dales and up to Malham Cove
A day trip on the Settle - Carlisle railway
Hebden Bridge and Heptonstall
Holmfirth

Have a lovely week

Eureka! In Halifax is great for children, so much for them to do.

I haven't been to Bradford for ages, but the IMAX and media museum are good.

York is great if you head that way. The Castle museum there is fab with a Victorian street with shops. Also Jorvik, a Viking museum that is great for kids.

The OP said no kids.

If you're happy to spend your money in a place based on drugs money - go to Mumtaz. Also not as good as the reputation. Haworth town is just a row of tat shops. Harrogate is lovely, Knaresborough and Skipton ok for a bimble.

If you want to stick close to Haworth/Keighley then I'm reliably informed (I don't eat curry but DH, DF and DBIL do!) that Cardamon in Bingley is good.

Brimham Rocks near Pateley Bridge is a fab place to go on a fine day.

The Twelve Apostles on Ilkley Moor are worth a walk to. If you don't fancy hiking all the way over from Ilkley/the Cow & Calf there's a sneaky little spot to park in a bit nearer.

Haworth to Top Withens is a very nice walk.

Oh yes, Brimham Rocks is ace. There is a traditional sweet shop in Pateley Bridge worth a visit.

Shimla spice in Keighley is fab.

Hebden Bridge is lovely little market town. Check out if the theatre there has anything on as it is an amazing little place.
Cliffe Castle is actually suprisingly good in Keighley.
Ilkley is lovely. Bettys tearooms are a must.

Looks as if we're going to need far more than a week!
