Place to stay in Whitby?

Hi - DH and I are looking for somewhere to stay in or near Whitby (or really just near the North Yorkshire moors) for a nice relaxing 4 or 7 day break (depending on cost). Ideally two bedrooms as we'll have our one year old DS with us. So babyfriendly good but not essential. I've tried babyfriendlyboltholes.com and a few other places but there doesn't seem to be much this way. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks Smile

Maybe this isn't what you're looking for but the YHA youth hostel in Whitby is gorgeous, sat right on top of the steps near the Abby, beautiful views over Whitby and the sea.
They have family rooms so you wouldn't have to share a dorm but the bathroom and kitchen facilities are shared.
Really lovely place to stay and cheap!

We stayed at Captain Cooks Haven (on the Hoseasons website).

Their cottages are child friendly, and there's a small swimming pool and playground on site.

You can walk into Whitby centre along part of the Scarborough - Whitby rail trail (a footpath & cycle route along the route of the old Scarborough - Whitby railway), it takes about 15-20 mins at adult walking pace.

Try Ingrid Flute's cottages.

We stayed with one of theirs last years in Grosmont. Steam trains 100 yards from the front door, ideal for small children. (though maybe 1 year old is a bit early!)

Personally I'd stay at one of the little villages up the coast,

Staithes??? Gorgeous.

Another vote for a cottage with Ingrid Flute.

Don't stay at the YHA in Whitby if you're planning on using a pram. You can't get it up/down the long steps to town without huge hassle, and the alternative is a VERY ling roundtrip by road.

I'll try to find the name of the B&B we stayed in / they were lovely.

This is a good site & who we usually use.

Captain Cooks haven is good, great location if you like walking. But we prefer to stay closer to town centre for meals out etc

My SIL has recently bought a cottage right near to the river inlet port in Whitby, it has 3 bedrooms but is in such a great location, 5 minutes walk to the beach and 30 seconds from Magpies. It is rented through Whitby Country Cottages, Press Gang Cottage. We have just been for the first time and found it great for wandering around the town (although I'm biased of course!). I was also good not having to drive to the beach too and a 5 minute walk from the co-op.
