Picturesque town/village west of London

Planning a week/10 days hols in the Uk.Hoping those in the know can guide me! Im looking for a village/town preferably under an hours train journey to London. I have an image of a "midsomermurders"(without the death toll) type setting.Pretty village with a playground, green area for the kids.Nice pub:) House with a garden.Problem is I dont know where I should be looking.Travelling from Ireland and Im not familiar with the area.Would you recommend where you live??Any suggestions welcome!
