We are looking to go in August, for a week. There will be me and my sister, my mum (in her 60s), my 3ds, 11, 7 and 2. We have been to:
Devon Cliffs - too hilly around the pitches but ok (long time ago)
Greenacres - love this site - clean and well kept but could have a better pool - really like it though
Pontins Southport - awful! dirty, smelly accomodation and facilities
Presthaven Sands - facilities good but thought the caravan pitches were very unkempt.
Centre Parcs - Whinfell - love this but not sure we can stretch the budget to an August stay.
This gives you an idea of what sort of sites we've liked. We will also have dsis' dog which complicates matters as the Haven sites only let dogs in the basic caravans and we want to stay in a nicer one so Haven is probably out.
Can you tell me where you've been and what the sites were like? Which should we avoid like the plague?
We will go anywhere in England and Wales really but dont fancy Scotland.
Thanks

Have stayed a couple of times at Cosways on Mersea Island. Small park, mainly owners and nice modern vans. I think they have some vans where you can have dogs and not just the basic ones. As it is small there is not a huge amount of facilities but there is a small beach, small pool, playground and a clubhouse and shop. They are owned by Waldegraves which is a bigger park nearby but I have not stayed on that one. Mersea is a lovely place, great seafood!

Thank you, I think we'd like a pool but I'll have a look at the other site and Mersea in general.

Mersea is lovely! Just left a post on another thread about holiday parks to say that I tried Searles in Norfolk at the weekend and it was great (I don't work for them, honest!)

Hi I can recommend the following sites:

  1. Challoborough Bay near Salcombe (Parkdean Hols), lovely peaceful location, nice warm swimming pool and right next to the beach
  2. Seaacres, the Lizard also Parkdean. A bit smaller than challaborough but lovely site, a 5/10 mins walk down steepish hill to beach however.

I think a lot of the holiday park companies only allow dogs in the standard accommodation.

I've stayed at Peppermint Park in Dawlish before, which is Park Holidays UK and they only allow dogs in Bronze.
This is reasonably flat and a short walk to the beach.

I'm also off to St Osyth Beach in Clacton in June, but not taking the dog this time.
