Hotels in Sandown, Isle of Wight, please

My mum is between chemo treatments and is in need of a change of scenery and some sea air. Her and dad would like to visit Sandown on the Isle of Wight.

Can anyone please recommend any clean, pleasant hotels that won't break the bank? They need to be fairly central as mum can't walk too far. Half board would be perfect too, so the food needs to be reasonable.

My plan is to drive them to Southampton so they can catch the ferry across themselves to East Cowes. They don't have a car anymore. Can anyone please give me some guidance on the best way for them to get to Sandown? I'm assuming taxis will cost a bomb and so public buses is the only option? They need something direct as mum will be tired by this point.

As for excursions to other places on the island, if they feel up to it, am I right in assuming they could join/book something through Tourist Information?

Ultimately, I want them to have a nice, relaxing holiday with as little stress as possible. Any tips to help them do this would be most appreciated!

If they're going foot passengers you could take them to Portsmouth instead and they could take the fast hydrofoil to ryde and then there's a train to sandown- it's an old London underground train. I would think they could then get a taxi to the hotel. Other than that I know that bus travel is extremely expensive on the island.

I'm sure I've read that the tourist offices have closed but there ate open top bus trips round the island that I think work on a hop on hop off basis.

Not a hotel, sorry, but we stayed in the Parterre apartments in Sandown and they were lovely. I think the bathroom there was the cleanest I have ever set foot in.

Bus travel IS expensive but you can buy a weekly pass.

We went to Portsmouth and got the catamaran over to Ryde, where the island railway starts. V easy journey.

Best of luck for your mum's recovery x
