Christchurch, Dorset. Can anyone recommend it?

I am thinking of one week there at the beginning of June. Three boys aged 12, 9 and 5. Me and my husband. And my mum who is quite unfit and can't walk far. No car. Staying in a cottage rental near the town centre.

It looks lovely on the tourist website, but is it really? Is here good bus transport if we want to go elsewhere for the day?

Any tips gratefully received!

We love it, but we live here. If the weather is good, you have Mudeford, Hengistbury Head, etc.. There are plenty of eateries in town but not a lot for kids if you aren't up for walking and don't have your own transport. It's possible to get a train to Brockenhurst and hire bikes there but that won't help your Mum. Good bus service to Bournemouth and Poole, for cinema's, shops, more beach. Hope you have a great time.

Thanks. It looked on the website like there were parks, dry skiing, museums, castles etc all in the town so I thought it would be good even without going far? Is this not right?

Dry ski centre isn't on a bus route, you'd need a taxi or hire car to get to. It's about 5 miles from centre. Ideal place to go with kids and there is cafe/bar/restaurant so you can watch them in the warm. Worth a family day out but pricey with a cab fare as well. Parks, river, castle, Priory all right in centre, there is a skate park by the sports centre if they have skate boards, this is near centre too.

We like the area but that's mainly for the walking. I think without a car it might be harder.

Look at Hoburne Naish - nice lodges, pool on site, beach within walking distance, playground, crazy golf, bowling. We love it there especially if it's out of school holidays.
