Heathrow Terminal 5 / Heathrow Express

I'd be grateful if someone could explain to me please how I can get from London Liverpool Street to Heathrow Terminal 5.

Is there an underground connection between the two?

Why is Heathrow Express so expensive? Is it the only possible way of getting to terminal 5?

I'm really confused about this, and I don't usually have problems arranging trips.

Will be travelling with DD who will be just about 4, in case this is relevant. My main interest is to keep costs down and to make the journey as easy as possible (obviously).

Would be very grateful to hear from someone who has done this themselves.

From Liverpoool st you can take the tube. Central line to Holborn then Piccadilly to T5 but it's a long and very boring journey.

However, you'd still need to take the Circle or Hammersmith & City line to Paddington from Liverpool st to get the Heathrow Express. It's not an easy journey whichever way you look at it as you're going east to far, far west

I don't know why the Heathrow express is so ridiculously expensive

PS the interchange at Holborn is a bit of a pain as well.

Pain with luggage and a 4 year old, I mean.

Ooh, thanks for that. Why is Holborn a pain? We'll be arriving at Liverpool Street around 9am, great timing Hmm

Is the way you've described better than changing at Kings Cross?

Oops, sorry for not replying sooner. Hope your journey wasn't today!

It's a pain because there's no step free access between the platforms and it has long escalators as well as sections of stairs. It gets very crowded. 9am, if a weekday, will be peak rush hour as I imagine you've realised! Depends how much baggage you have.

But... it's still cheaper than the Heathrow Express!

Don't worry, still have a few weeks.

Hmm, we'll have a big suitcase and smaller bags, so really dreading those big escalators with everyone pushing past.

Would Kings Cross be better for keeping track of DD AND the suitcase without being trampled? Is it likely to be more busy than Holborn?

Sorry for the ridiculous questions! Blush Although I can read a tube map, I don't go to London very often, and I want to make sure we don't arrive at the airport too frazzled and sweaty. Plus I usually plan everything in minute detail.

Kings X will be as busy if not busier than Holborn at that time of the day and there are just as many escalators. However, there are also lifts (I think) following the refurb and it's generally a nicer interchange than older tube stations.

Are you coming in from Cambridge/ Cambridgeshire? If so, and you just have to get a train to either Liverpool St or Kings X then I would probably go for the Kings X option.

They're not ridiculous questions and I am like you - I like everything planned in detail too!
