Somewhere good to stay near Colchester?

I am returning to the UK in September to visit family. Our first stop will be Frinton on Sea. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel/pub with rooms in the Colchester area? I did see the nice new spa in Thorpe Le Soken but that's a no-go as I have a toddler! (no u16s). Thanks!

Both The Crown and The Angel are good in Stoke by Nayland.

Milsoms is also nice in Dedham

Both in the heart of constable country if you like that type of thing.

Thanks Queen

Do you know anything about the North Hill Hotel in Colchester?

North Hill has the 6th form college on, which has over 3000 students, so it gets very busy!! There's a lot of traffic as well and it's very close to the main high street/town centre (would be noisy on fri/sat nights). Depends how long you are planning on staying, but I wouldn't want to stay in that location for more than a night or two with a toddler.

Oh and thursday nights, as that's student night.

It would be a Sunday night. The reviews on TA all say how noisy it is, which is a shame as the rooms look lovely.

The Angel and The Crown both look promising. We have a Great Uncle in Woodbridge too, so their position is ideal.

I'll get something booked tomorrow. Thanks!
