Gorgeous hotel for 2 nights without children....please??

My sister has asked (!) to have my children between Christmas & New Year so we need to find somewhere to stay about an hour from Weston Super Mare- any suggestions?? We'd love a spa if possible as intend to not do very much except relax and drink cocktails!

We've done Cowley Manor before and although loved it would like to do something different....!

Budget negotiable.

Oh thanks LucyClaire - only just saw this!! We know the Scarlet v well - we stayed at Bedruthen Steps when it was being built! I'd love to go but DH not keen on a long drive.... We've provisionally booked Whatley Manor but I'm still looking!!!! Thanks for the suggestion though!!!

Not sure how far from Weston it is, but the Combe House Hotel in Gittisham, Devon, is wonderful. It is a 16th century manor house and has been in the same family for centuries. You come in to a baronial hall with a fireplace large enough for a swimming pool almost. The grounds are lovely, most of the village belongs to the house and it is surrounded by tenant farms. You have breakfast overlooking the horses, there are kitchen gardens, oh everything. The food is glorious, most of it from their farms. You drive downs a couple of miles of thickly wooded, snaky road, which all belongs to them, too.

It is olde worlde courtesy and service, and well worth the price (though when we went - only one night, sigh - they did negotiate).

Whatley manor is fab been there several times. Have a great time, an very jealous!

Combe House does look amazing Jux - on the list for another time though as DH is insisting we have a pool/spa! Good to hear givemeaclue - my only concern was there were only standard rooms available which to be honest is all we could justify anyway but I'm worried that they don't have big beds and are very small... Have you any experience or am I fretting for no reason????

Hi I have stayed in a few different rooms there. The standard rooms are not big but you won't find them poky. I can't remember the bed size though but always had great nights sleep there, very comfortable
