These seem to be everywhere at the moment - are they any good?
Worth getting for DD (5.5)?
Thanks.

They're quite tricky to do, DD is 12 and can only do the basic ones still. She is obssessed though and prefers to use her fingers rather than her loom.
I'd buy a cheaper set for a 5 year old.

Ds is nearly 12. For her it is the best thing ever but no I wouldn't get it for a 5 Yr old.

Bands from the pound shop and 2 pens seem to do all dd2 and her mates want (she's 14)

My 13 year old DD loves her set but looks complicated

My 6 year old loves his! He can put the bands on but needs a bit of help doing the hooking and following instructions for the complicated ones. He can manage a simple fish tail one by himself though. I got the loom in The Entertainer for 3 quid which is also selling packets of bands for 1 pound.

This has been the craze where I live for a couple of months at least. Little dc can make the easier ones for sure. You don't need a loom for many of the designs and there are lots and lots of videos on YouTube.

There is a book to called rubber band jewellery.

It's a great activity. Cheap and creative. They can make them for other people so it's all very sharing.

My 9 yr old sil has these (my baby and I are both proud owners of bracelets!). I noticed the age said 8+, so I'm guessing it might be difficult for a 5 yr old

Forgot to mention that I bought the Rainbow Loom upgrade kit from Claires Accessories. We find that the upgrade kit is brilliant for fishtail bracelets; really quick and no faff. It also comes with a metal hook (brilliant) and a code to get access to all the Rainbow Loom videos and member website. Great bargain (normally £5.99; we got 50 percent off voucher after DD got ears pierced at Claires) and the upgrade kit is tiny enough to pack for hols. Can def recommend it. Even DH is getting 'hooked' on loom bands with the new metal hook....

can anyone recommend a good idiot's guide video for these - DD has been bought some and I'm happy to make them for her, but don't want to spend hours trawling through the videos if anyone can recommend a good one!

I got a pack of bands, with a hook, for 80p on primark. Have heard they also sell em in pound land. At that price it's worth trying.

I have done both simple and fishtail brackets with 3.5 yo dd, but she needs a lot of help. 5 yo should be ok.

My 8 year old loves hers, she's obsessed.

YouTube is a good place for tutorials, loads of easy ones on there. This site is fab for more complicated stuff Loom Love

2 forks sellotaped together and a £1 bag of bands from The Works is a cheap way to start with the simple fishtail/chain link bracelets
