Scooter for a 4 yr old?

Two years ago DS was given a scooter that he was too big for very soon and he's never really used it, preferring his balance bike. He's now requested a scooter for his birthday and I like the look of the micro scooters, but the micro ones seem very small (he is tall for his age) and the maxi ones look too old ( and expensive!). Or, do I look at two-wheel scooters now?

Has anyone got much use out of a micro mini after their child is the size of a big 4 yr old? (Hope that question makes sense)

My 6 yr old DD is still happily using her micro scooter. It was quite expensive, but has been used loads and she's not grown out of it yet.
Can he try out a 2 wheeler and see how it is for him? The 3 wheeler ones are easy to get used to.

If he's big and has use a balance bike I'd say you could go straight for a maxi micro and get years of use. Ds2 age 5 is small and been using one for 8 months now and loves it!

He also has a little sister, so I may go for the smaller one if he'll get a couple of years' use and then she can get some use too, I just didn't want him to get one that he was already growing out of.

Next question, then, where can I get one in a gender neutral colour?

If I remember rightly I got DD's from John Lewis

Green or yellow maybe? (out of stock in yellow at the moment)

I would not buy a mini micro if I were you. My quite small 4 year old does still fit it but equally can ride the next size up. Also if he is starting reception in September he may well want a big boy scooter (my only just 6 year old was the only one of his friends still on a micro).
We bought him a sprite for his birthday which is a 2 wheeler. It's much cheaper than the 3 wheeler and he loves it. It has also helped him with riding his bike and better got stunts which my boys are obsessed with.
However If you do go for the micro you can replace the basebplate for £20 so I just swapped a very mangled blue one for a pink one for my dd and it looks like a new scooter.
