smile I LOVE it! ita my fave event to go and watch (and as for the shopping!)

Went yesterday with hubby and it was sweltering but looks like the wellies might need to come out today sad

My friend has scored us VIP tickets! Going for the first time ever tomorrow for free! Bacon sandwich on arrival, meet Mark Phillips at 11am, champagnes lunch, soooooo excited!

Me tomorrow, with the DDs and a lot of the mums from PC.Really looking forward to it.

I'm very jealous - 2 poxy hours on the BBC on Sunday is all we get, although I will try and catch some rounds on Burghley TV. I watched the course walk with Alice Plunket and Mark Philips on the Burghley website and it looks absolutely terrifying - some of those angles look impossible.

Have fun everyone, hope the weather is kind.

Yep can't wait. Unfortunately - due to DD going back to school yesterday - can't make the shopping dressage days but will be there tomorrow. Could be wet but that doesn't really matter (prefer that to sweltering).

Plan to get there for 8am to can be in the shops when they open. We're buying DD some Dubarrys for Christmas and I'm looking forward to getting back to the specialist Scotch Egg shop - yum.

Plan to dump all our goodies in the car by 10am so we can concentrate on walking the course (backwards as always). Obviously cheering the Brits - particularly William and Oliver - but watching out for Buck Davidson as we know his dad. It's also an honour to watch Sir Mark Todd and DW loves Andrew Nicholson.

The weather looks dry and sunny for tomorrow [we live not far away].I'm aiming to get there as early as possible as I'm after new boots and a new coat as well.Bless him,DH has told me to buy whatever I like.grin

Wow Pipsy - I bet that was AMAZING!!

Mirage - your DH sounds lovely! (Does he know how much temptation there is however?!)

I spent a fortune today, so much fun and we still didn't get round all of the shops! I've told my mum to ban me from buying anything tomorrow (apart from food!) I need to keep away from shops and off on the xc course!

Hope everyone has a fab time!! :-)

Have to say - traffic seems worse this year and far less efficient....shock

Got parked in very good time - arrived at 9am - and amazingly got sent to the car park on the flat at the bottom of the hill next to Lion Bridge, so lucky as most people in there seemed to have special car passes.

Did the shops before the X Country started and DD got her Dubarrys (what a crush!!) and I got some jeans, sleeveless zipped up jumper and one of those Argentinian style fabric belts so very pleased.

Also bought the 4 Scotch Eggs for a tenner that I've been looking forward to all year!

Really enjoyed the X Country but not in favour of the loop from Range Rover Discovery area to Leaf pit - didn't seem to flow...

Hope you all had fun, it was a great first burghley experience for me, will expect VIP every time now wink Couldn't believe how many people from home I bumped into, huge place but met loads of friends it was great!

Spent rather too much money though!

We had a wonderful time too.I thought the traffic management was better this year,we got through Stamford far easier than we have done in the past.I got my boots and lots of other bits and pieces,so was very pleased.

Are you coming from the North Mirage? We came up form south, and didn't get anywhere close to stamford, came off the A1 much earlier, and went through little villages and came in the "back".....maybe why it was better for you?

Anyway serves us right for going out the night before and leaving 45min later than planned. Still loved it though. DH wants to take Friday off next year and just he and I go on the friday, and take the kids on the saturday.

Mirage Sun 08-Sep-13 21:03:11

We live in Leicestershire,so went on the A47,came off just before Stamford, went through a couple of villages, under the A1 and straight into Stamford town centre. We left later than planned too,as DD1 was reluctant to get out of bed and they were both faffing about with their guinea pigs.In the end I shouted that I was getting into the car and anyone not in their seat was staying behind.hmm

Butkin Mon 09-Sep-13 10:26:08

We went the usual way - for cars coming up A1 - thru Barnack and it seemed to work well. We were under way (from Suffolk) at 7.30am and got to Barnack around 8.40am and parked up by 9. Traffic flowed pretty well.

I'd never want to hit Burghley after 10. We were walking the course up by Cottesmore Leap around Noon and cars were still flooding in and parking up in the huge field next to Winner's Avenue and that was pretty full. I'd say huge attendance...

mrslaughan Mon 09-Sep-13 10:53:14

Last year we didn't go through Barnack.....This year we left st Albans About 7.30, and were Parked at about 10.45....but miles away from "Burghley HQ".

This is only my second year, but it seemed heaps busier than last year. Next year we are going to leave earlier, pack a picnic so we don't need to go near HQ (we want to go on the friday for that!)
