Quite often - they are very good at doing impressions! Dhorse quite often appears to have dreams when he's flat out, with his feet twitching - used to be a racehorse so may be he's thinking of all those races he didn't win!

No- they always stand up as you rush across, heart in your mouth.

Dd's mare gets me every single time. She always flings her head right back as well, so she looks as if she's somehow broken her neck......

I can see a neighbour's padlock from my bedroom. His horses do this to me on a regularly.

Thank goodness for that, I thought for a horrible moment you meant you had found a dead horse! Ours all seem to have a lie down at the same time every day, so when I see that I just think they are having their mid morning nap. That said while dog walking a few weeks back we did find a horse that was down and couldn't get up. We managed to contact the owner and it was PTS a bit later

I also have the; shit they've all escaped! Moment. When actually they are all standing very carefully in line behind the tiny bush/hedge that shouldn't be able to hide one of them never mind 4 (apart from one morning when they actually were in my neighbours garden who had cut their grass and left it by the fence, the fence did not survive the experience...)

My brother says that it shows the level of equine humour- "Look, I'm dead!" is slightly more basic than the feline "Help Help! I'm stuck in this tree!"

I had one of those Loves - the horse and pony weren't in the yard where I'd left them, no gates open, no horses in the field, not a sound nor sight of them.....

I then heard the scrape of a shoe and realised that they had opened the feed room door, snuck in and in the process of squeezing in had shut the door behind them and turned on the light. They were happily scoffing hay (luckily all the hard feed bins were empty) and were most put out when I ordered them out.

We used to! We had a 30 something TB pony who used to sleep flat out, a lot! He would also add 'chasing cats' into the mix as well. So not only did we get "shit he is dead" we used to get "shit he is having a fit"!! Too!
We have also had 4 bays, from 18hh to 13 hh, all standing one behind the other, so that from a distance there is just one horse and an empty field!!!

Our 30 year old has it down to a fine art, she will be absolutely motionless until you have trudged up the hill frantically calling her name and almost got right up to her. Then she will slowly lift her head as if to say "oh sorry, were you calling?". Several times I've gone up there mentally rehearsing the phone call I'd have to make to her owner.
One day I suppose it will be true, in a way I hope so (not yet though!) as it will be quite a nice way to go, as long as she is sunbathing and not collapsed in the cold, which would be horrid.
