Dandelion burn?

The dentist found a sore on young horse's lip yesterday, he said it was a "dandelion burn" and to put bonjela on it.

I haven't heard of this and neither has google. I'm a bit reluctant to put bonjela on a horse- apart from anything else- won't it sting like crazy? [scared emoticon].

Any ideas, anyone?

I thought dandelions were healthy 'herbage', I've never heard of them burning Hmm.

He said it was caused by very mixed rich grazing happening very quickly- like this delayed then sudden spring. But I've never heard of it, my local horsy experts haven't heard of it.....I think I'll just suggest dd bungs some sudocreme on it and see what happens. Hooks for practically everything else!

Is it an orangey crusty scab? Mine get these on their pink noses and heels all the time. Sudocreme is excellent. We call this 'gribbley beak'! Grin

I thought it was also called 'buttercup burn'!

Any cream will work. Vaseline, zinc and castor oil, sudocreme, germoline...

That could explain it- silly man!

Thank you all. I put sudocreme on it yesterday because that's what I put on everything- I'll carry on.

I've checked with everyone who was there and he did say dandelion burn, so I'm not going mad! Thank you- it actually looks much better today. Sudocreme rocks!
