Entered spotty for the royal highland and chaps spring festival, tomorrow I'm riding him for the first time since last may, got the novice workers class at chaps so need to brush up on my jumping and make sure all my stuff still fits post baby :0)

We got our schedule for our local biggie. Going to enter our yearlings. They've been living out all winter. Got LOADS of grooming, trimming, feeding and practice to do!

Wow Royal Highland - sounds great! We're entered for Suffolk, South of England and Royal Windsor and getting really excited. We're starting the season (proper) next weekend at BSPS 16 but DD going up to Winter Champs to watch her friends this weekend and get in the mood!

Ooh, if you do Sufffolk Butkin, you need to come to the food tent and look for a short fat speccy cheese and pie seller! Grin

Butkin · 29/03/2013 13:20

We always go to the food tent to buy our lunch and we usually get crisps, cheese and pies! We going on first day to do RIHS SP and M&M FR. Suffolk is our local county show and second only to South Suffolk in our affections -although DD is looking forward to riding in the Queen's back garden!

Suffolk is our local too, but I'm too scared to enter for fear of embarrassment! Blush

Mmm...cheese and pies...
Love pies but haven't eaten one since Mr Tesco and his gang put me off, possibly for life. I'm sure yours aren't horse though Saggy!

Twatty I've got a soft spot for spotties (see what I did?), what kind is yours?

Just got back from the yard where he's being produced, he rode like a dream, can't believe it's been 10 months since I sat on him :0) really looking forward to showing now. He's not a true spotty, hes tobiano with spots on his white bits, so a bit of an oddball really, but handsome nonetheless

I'm sure I shed a few tears as I paid for my Windsor entry -£52!!!!! 1st prize is only £45. We are giving Suffolk a miss this year as one of the judges is definitely not a fan of our pony, one of the best things about county shows is the food tent. My favourite one is the new forest as my dad takes me and we share a huge breakfast in the stock mans tent. Good luck this season everyone fingers crossed for a relatively dry one!

Yeah that's why we are off to highland to do the hoys qualifier rather than closer shows, he's a big beast and not everyone's cup of tea, and it's pointless shelling out cash on a qualifier when you have a hunter and the judge prefers hacks, never going to get anywhere!
We are off to great Yorkshire show too, and obv chaps summer champs in August, as for the rest we will see how he goes. Will try to get him qualified for rihs aswell.

I've never been to the royal highland but have made the trip to the Scottish horse show a couple of times and have really enjoyed it. I'm in the very lucky position of having picked up my Ri ticket last August so I haven't had to worry about getting out to the early qualifiers (good thing to as they are either cancelled or I can't get to them).

What sort of horse/pony do you hyave Mrmonkey. Great that you qualified so early - our first RI isn't until next week...

I have an m&m WHP who currently looks like a close relative of a yak! Not having her out has given me the chance to bring out the novice though, although I've still not found a bit he is 100% happy in so we are spending these next few months experimenting.

Sorry should have added good luck for your Ri, are you going to bsps 16 for it? Or nps area 15?

We were supposed to have an ri qualifier a couple of weeks ago but someone told spotty and he got cast 3 days before and had a big knee. Bloody typical. He qualified for last years but I was pregnant so couldn't go, I think the ri is jinxed for us!

My first visit to the Ri was doomed, the pony jumped an amazing clear round (one of only 2) but when we came to do our show she was lame :-( turns out she had lami (still don't know how she flew round so well if she was that lame straight after). The judge had to ask us to leave and she spent the rest of the season on box rest. She did return the following year and do very well so keep at it!

Mr Monkey - going to BSPS 16 on Saturday but not a qualifier (just do a couple of classes for practise) and then first RI Q at Area 15a (Mid Herts Spring) next week.

Don't think we're going to NPS 15 - probably go to Ascot instead...

Mrmonkey · 02/04/2013 18:28

Area 15a is local for me but no WHP so don't usually go. Good luck at both our next outing will prob be nps spring festival with the novice and the open pony won't make it out till Windsor.
