jacket/coat to fit over body protector (dd)

Hi, I don't think I've ever posted in this section before, but could really do with some help. We have had an ongoing problem of finding coats to fit over dd's body protector... She's 12, and I got a brilliant lightweight, waterproof jacket from Millets (I think) when she was about 10 & it has been room enough to fit until now.

I can't seem to find another one in the same style that will fit over (and zip!) with her body protector on. Then if I move up to a small ladies size, the arms are just too long to be practical.

What do your dds wear for lessons? I've seen various girls here just in hoodies over the body protectors (no coat), but dd is always cold... especially if she's spending the day at the stables. It seems to almost always be raining or windy or both during her rides!

Can she wear her body protector over her coat? Most people round here do that. Then when they've finished riding can just pop it off and keep the coat on too!

Interesting idea. I've not seen any of the other girls wearing them like that except in summer of course. It would probably be easier to get a slightly bigger body protector than continuing this coat search!

Have you tried what I can best describe as blouson jackets. Musto snug type ones like this. Like horseylady, most people I know wear their BP's over their coat/jackets. Looking on the worst case scenario, it is easier for the hospital staff to remove them that way, should it come to it :(

Ds and I wear blouson jackets over as both tend to get a bit hot after a while with bp on - mine are Horsewear and Countrywide own brand, ds's is an embroidered one. this is the sort of thing

You could get the arms taken up on a small adult jacket either? Not too difficult to do. My jumping/hunting jackets are deliberately bought two sizes too big, and then I get someone to take up the sleeves and in the shoulders to fit around the body protector.

Also, don't go for a bigger protector unless she is always going to be wearing a jacket or jumper under it. They need to be a snug as possible to the body.

DD always wears her coat over her back protector. Her bp is too snug to fit a thick jacket underneath, plus she finds it uncomfortable. I think the best thing is to buy a size or two bigger than your DD needs. My DD has has a Harry Hall jacket, a Rhinegold blouson jacket and is currently wearing a Trespass jacket (meant to be her school coat, but it is warm and covers her bum so she prefers wearing it when riding).

And be very careful about sizing the bp up instead - if it doesn't fit properly it can cause more harm than god in a fall.

DD would wear her BP over her show jacket for jumping because jacket is tight fitting.

However for every day she just wears various waterproof blouson type jackets over her BP because it is snug. If you go to a tack shop they should have a wide selection as per CMOT's suggestion. DD's favourite for riding is her Horsewear Ireland one (plain navy blue) which seems pretty waterproof.

In fact DD's Rhinegold is in fact a Horseware Ireland and I've got one too. They are great jackets, lightweight and warm.
