can actually stop now :(

Fields have more water than grass, I don't think my horse can actually remember what a sensible hack constitutes and I can't take her to let off steam anywhere as everywhere is underwater.

I know were all in a similar situation but I can honestly never ever remember it being this bad!!

I'm pretty sure she's spent more time in her stable this year than out :(

I know,it is awful now.We went to a PC Rrally today and it was the first time dpony had a good canter for over a month now.We have access to my dads land and he has built us some x country jumps, but I don't wan the dds galloping and jumping on wet fields because they'll make a hell of a mess and possibly slip and hurt themselves.he dds were planning on going hunting on NY's day but I think that has been cancelled too.Sad

Today was the first day in 2 weeks that dd2 & I have managed to actually
ride. Dponies were totally amazed to get out of their quagmire muddy field at long last.

Any school I've enquired about is also under water or being used as turnout. It's mental!!

Our field is now waterlogged at the top. How does that happen?

Water table if full. So the water just sits now.

Yesterday was the first time DD managed to ride her pony for about three weeks (he was an angel, and sooo happy to be out and about).

I caved in a few days ago and both ponies are being stabled at night now. Their paddock was so waterlogged that their feet and fetlocks haven't dried out for over a month. Thank goodness we have no sign of mud fever, though another (non-ridden) horse close by has got it. And all of the bloody coughs and colds around at the moment - just about everyone I know is ill because of this giant bloody petri-dish we are all living in right now.

I've moved my two home to our paddock - there's no stabling but plenty of shelter and grass cover so although they are wet they're not sloshing about in mud as they were at the livery place. I'm slapping Sudocrem onto dhorse's heels which seems to be keeping the mud fever at bay, although not curing it yet and praying for dryer weather.

My livery companion has just called to say that the farmer has asked that we keep the horses off the field for a week! She gave him short shrift for that - and asked for him to roll the field when (if) it dries out a bit - he's not horse minded at all. She said that if he can clear the big barn of rubbish then we can put them in there but she's not keeping hers stabled for that length of time. I'm very glad I've got mine here for a bit!

There should be an improvement this week if that's any comfort. Looking much drier tomorrow on (away from Scotland)

Like the thread title btw, made me think of something by James Herbert. You've read The Fog, now try the new sinister sequel The Rain...

I've read that and have moved on to The Swamp now!
