Hey guys, To continue on my hunt for a horse to share, i've found another one to go try, but the owner is asking for references? I've never shared a horse before only owned, What on earth am i meant to give her?

Do you have a previous yard owner or instructor that could write you a ref?

Also anyone who can show you are reliable and committed, with anything not just horses. The problem I have had with sharers is that they have been keen and then loose interest, I would want a ref that would suggest otherwise.

I suppose if it was me I'd be interested in character references, pony or riding club or instructor? maybe something from a vet from when you owned a horse (or any animal) and perhaps any formal equine related qualifications like owners certificate or pony club/bhs stages?

Hmmm, I see your point. I could probably get something from my instructor. Although if it would be any good or not is a different matter, I've only been riding with her for about 2 months.

Vet? They did a reference for us once when we took on a rescue pony.

I could call my old vet, The problem again being it was 4 years ago i dealt with them, when my poor horse had an impacted gut (previous owner hadn't bothered worming so she had terrible scarring, and had to have a special diet - despite this she won chiltern & Thames Junior reserve champion the year before last)
I wonder if a reference from my dogs vet would suffice? Although they don't treat horses, I have put alot of time energy and money into the dog i rescued a year ago. The dog agility club we go to may provide a reference to that effect.

My only other thought, is possibly a reference from the lady who bought my horse from me, we are still in regular contact.

I Don't have any PC certificates or old paperwork for the horses (house fire a few years ago) I guess it might not be impossible to get copies of some of those though.
