How do I put a value on Dpony??

It's only a possibilty atm, but may need to sell my beloved pony Sad
I'm really struggling to work out how much he might be worth.
He's 14.1 (maybe 14.2.....will measure him), rising 6, chocolate dun and white welsh cob cross.
He has recently been backed, and is doing very well. He is a very sweet boy, and loves attention. He'd really benefit from a 1 to 1 relationship-he's bonded very strongly to me and we have a lot of trust in each other.
He's up to date with his vaccinations and is microchipped. He is currently barefoot, and lives out. (He didn't lose any condition when we had all that snow)
I would be heartbroken if he had to go, but if it comes to that he'd only go to a home that I'd be sure about. I don't think I'd consider loaning him, as once I've let go I need to move on Sad

If anybody's got any ideas to his value, or where to go for an idea, please let me know.

Many thanks, EP x

I've not got a clue about what he'd be worth, but I really hope you don't end up seling him, you sound like you're doing a great job with him. Good luck with whatever decision you end up making.

Thank you olderyetwider.
Every time I think about it I well up, but it may be the only option Sad

I'd suggest - based on what you've said about him - that he'd be between 1,500 and 1,750.

Have a look at Horsequest and go to coloured ponies - they have lots available at the moment and always sensibly priced.

Compare yourself to this one - tinyurl.com/6dgejhl - as a guide.

Best of luck whatever you decide to do.

Sorry link just takes you to the appropriate section. I was comparing to the 14.2 Coloured Irish sports pony and to the Attractive Coloured gelding.

:( Why? Can we help you come up with other options?

I have a DH who has no interest at all in horses / yard stuff / anything remotely linked to horses, and piles on heaps of guilt onto me for every second I spend with the ponies Sad
Crunch point was Saturday.......DD and I ran to catch ponies, ran them into yard, she changed whilst I groomed / tacked up (so missing out on that aspect of riding) and we went on the shortest ride possible. No enjoyment there at all. Rushing to get home, because I feel so guilty Sad
Think Dpony also picked up on this as he had a very tense / spooky ride.
Just considering this option atm, but maybe the Easter hols being over will mean ponies don't eat into "family" time so much, so I'll feel less guilty.

Sorry.....forgot to say thank you Butkin.
Had thought about comparing him to what else is about, but wasn't sure what to compare him to-you've hit the nail on the head I think Smile

Oh.

am sure this is a very complex problem but why can't he just get some interests of his own, and you cut down time spent at yard (more livery?) and the two of you meet somewhere in the middle?

will you be able to do this and not resent him for it? Surely you could find a nicer husband?

What a sad situation. I know I'm probably not the normal DH in that I'm madly enthusiastic for racing, eventing and showing. However you DH sound totally unreasonable. I'd say sod it - today is my riding day and we're off to enjoy ourselves. What does he want you at home for anyway - can't he work the TV and the microwave? !

I hope you keep your DP and that you and DD have plenty of fun with him this Summer. Tell DH the more you do with him - especially if he is successful - the more he'll be worth....

: wonders if Butkin has a single brother/dad/incredibly-likeminded-friend :

anyway, riding with your daughter - that IS family time isn't it?

It is difficult, but our husbands are supposed to want us to be happy, and horses make us happy! Point out to him that while DD is riding with you she's not going to be shoplifting, drinking, hanging around with boys etc so it's actually his duty as a father to encourage all things horsey.

My DH got into horses on the basis that it was the only way he'd see us (wasn't difficult actually, he loves animals of all sorts). He'd never have asked me to choose between him and horses as I suspect we both knew which way that would have gone Grin

Could DH come out for a bike ride with you or something, or meet you and DD with a picnic etc, and get involved without having to be horsey? Or do what Mitchie says and find a nicer husband!

:wonders if we could clone Butkin:

Mitchie-he is a good husband really. He actually bought Dpony for my 30th and is busy re-vamping a trailer for me and DD Grin
More livery isn't an option, as funds are limited. I only go to the yard once a day anyway, as they live out and yard owner is happy to cast an eye over them for me. We have our own business which I do the accounts for, and I make time for this, house-keeping and the ponies while the kids are at school. I think it just got a bit much over the hols, as I need to put regular input into Dpony (just backed) and no time was made for it over the weekends when DH was about. I understand where he's coming from about family time- give it a couple of years and the DC won't want to go anywhere with us [cconfused]
Butkin-I agree with older and Mitchie-we need more men like you around!! Have taken a bit of your advice..........we are going to our first show in a couple of weeks!! I've told DH Smile
older-we have tried a pub ride (horse and bike), which would have been lovely if the other liveries hadn't lived upto DH's expectations of horsey people always been late..........a trait I am becoming notorious for Blush
I think I'll just need to make the most of weekday horsey time and if a weekend ride pops up it's a bonus..........maybe we'll try a pub ride / picnic again, but without other people to slow us down!!
Thanks guys x

Oh no. I hope you don't end up selling too - but you have just broken him in, so that will have been more time consuming, and with him living out in a few months you wont need to ride because he is newly broken, so you could just take things a bit more easy?
I really sadly sold my horse in December, as with the two of them and Uni fees I just couldn't afford them both. I really couldn't have afforded to keep him, but I do miss him terribly and the whole thing was really hard and pretty traumatic really.

Sorry - I totally missed your actual question - when I sold DHorse I looked on Horsemart etc to get a kind of idea what he would be worth.
