What do you wear on your feet in the snow? (just in case it comes back again)

My mum was going to buy me some snowboots for Christmas but her cheque was sent back as the ones she ordered were out of stock. So... I'm owed a pair of boots but don't know what to get. Any suggestions?

Not mega-money as my mum is a pensioner and the ones she was going to get were half price in a sale, although I could put something towards them if need be.

I want something with a warm fleecy lining, that will keep my feet dry, and has a chunky sole because obviously the horse field will be rutted if it freezes again. Basically they are so I can walk over the Downs to do the horses without freezing to death like I did last time in my wellies, despite extra socks, or breaking my neck (can also use for sledging with dcs of course!).

They don't have to be specific horsey ones but not too grannyish. My mum showed me some today with pom poms on. Hmm

Oh and I have wide feet. I even have trouble getting wellies to fit. Just to make it easier. Wink

I have found my woof wear long boots great........with the addition of some toasty welly warmers. Good grip in snow / ice and not too bad looking either :)

I just wear the remains of my tall toggi boots, warm and waterproof (although stuff sploshes down the top of them now they are old and baggy) and can ride in them (using the term 'ride' almost as loosely as the bloke in your video, haha).

I just got a pair of Karrimor snow boots for £30 from tkmaxx. They are like walking boots with rubber round the bottom for grip and water proofness and they have thick lining plus decent ankle support in case you do go over on ice!

I got mine from ebay they were £16.99 and I have worn little else in snow/ cold weather. I'm afraid I can't find a link but a simple search would throw up quite a few decent pairs. Mine are navy, waterproof, fake fur lined, chunky sole with good grip, zip up.

I'm afraid they are expensive, but I got a pair of Merrell Prevoz, and they are the best boots I have ever owned - look nice, wide, fab grip, super super toasty and waterproof.

Practical enough to wear on the yard (when there isn't a foot of mud in the ponies field), nice looking enough to wear into town even in no snow

My years old, extremely pricey, well treated walking boots. Cost about £150.00 8 years ago. Keep em well waterproofed and I wear them in any cold/wet conditions - no cold/wet feet. Excellent grip.

Buy proper walking socks too.

I live in a part of the country that is in a bit of a bubble and we rarely get deep snow. These seem to be high up enough for what we get here.

The Woof boots look good, and I've seen several different ones that look exactly the same (derby house ones on Amazon eg), Plus some on ebay seem ok, but I have a very bad track record for buying footwear by mail order. Obviously I have strange feet!

Think I'm going to have to be a bit cheeky and try some on if I can find them in local saddlers or somewhere, then order them cheaper online.

I've got these but in black with a red lining, they are the BEST yard boots I've ever had and my feet stay warm/dry even in the worst of the snow, the grip is also brilliant and I didn't slip once in them in the ice. The only down side is they are quite wide so have to change if I want to ride. Well worth it though.

Ooh they look cosy Lisa, but it seems they've only got size 10s left there. I googled the brand and they seem to start at a 7 so they must be men's boots. I wouldn't mind that but I'm only a 6, sometimes a 5 depending on the width.

Slightly different but purple!. Would match my coat Smile. Wonder if the 'suede' part would be ruined annoyingly quickly?

have been converted to Dubarrys ( but very pricey for glorified wellies) feet warm, and dry - but i did go from trainers to dubarrys so guess anything would seem good

I got JTS synthetic riding boots for £45. They look like leather, and comfy to ride in and very warm and waterproof. My feet stayed toastie when our car got stuck in the knee high snow and we had to walk 2 miles to get home.

Thanks, I've seen several pairs that I like now but I'm watching my favourite ones (original ones my mum tried to get for me) on ebay. They finish tomorrow evening so if I don't manage to get them then I'll go for my second-favourite ones (same as Lisa's but blue, can't find any other colours in my size) which are 'buy it now'. Oh it's so nerve-wracking!

I still like the purple ones but not sure if they are grannyish or not. Confused

Horsemadmom, not sure which ones are JTS? And are they like normal long riding boots? I'm afraid I had to give up wearing them years ago as I have a funny leg (not ha ha before you ask Grin) and long riding boots make my ankle hurt after a while.

I got fab Clarks snow boots, they were about £70. They're aubergine Smile and I love them, also available in black or cream. Fully-lined with furry stuff and so comfy

Pixel · 17/01/2011 15:44

Oh I do like Clarks, they have nice wide fittings (only for me though, I've gone right off their kids' shoes), but I can't see anything like yours on the website. I'm going into town tomorrow so may have a nosey, although I must admit I wasn't thinking of spending £70. Bit too soon after Christmas. Aubergine sounds lovely.

Ive just got some FABULOUS neoprene wellie type boots from The Muck Boot Company. I absolutely bloody love them. The neoprene is really toasty, your feet don't sweat and they have a lovely welly type cleated sole. the leg part is also stretchy and fits round my ample calves! I honestly dont think I will wear anything else ever again. Ever! Grin

I use good walking boots and double layer socks, available from all good outdoor pursuits stores Grin I also use them for festivals in the summer so I get my money's worth out of them. Wellies just get stuck in the mud and slide off your feet.

I just want some to use in frozen wastelands, not mud. I do have some walking boots that I've worn in the snow but they aren't completely waterproof (cheapskate) and my feet do get cold and wet eventually. One and a half hours to go on ebay auction! Must be sensible and set myself a limit. Hmm
