How do I teach thee? Can I count the ways? -
Do I teach thee to the depth, breadth and height
League tables reach? When working through the night,
I strive to maintain pace and data trace,
I teach thee tirelessly through everyday's
Most quiet need by sun and candlelight -
I teach thee freely as men strive for Right, -
I teach thee purely, as they turn from Praise;
I teach thee with the passion, grown from my
Experience and with my childhood's faith.
I teach thee with the love I scorn to lose
With Ofsted's rules - I teach thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears of all my life! - and, if Gove choose,
I shall but teach thee right up to my death.

Thank you! I was in a lesson and we were discussing this sonnet (the real one, oviously!) and the students were talking about how love is inspiring and powerful and can't be measured and all that stuff.......and suddenly the HOD came in. all worried, and announced that we had just been given the new A*-C targets for June and.........well, I just sat there and thought, oh the irony!
