Secondary school teaching in Scotland?

Hi,

I've got a degree in Maths, Statistics and Finance and have spent 10 years working as an Actuary. I had a 8 year career break after 8 years working then went back for 2 years.

I've also done a fair bit of voluntary work, some with children and some adult literacy and numeracy teaching.

I'm interested in going into teaching (secondary school). What is my best path? Having googled it seems that you can do a 1 year postgrad course. My worry is that I've left it too late for August - have I? I'm struggling to find deadline dates online.

It seems too that OU have stopped offering the postgrad course.

Any thoughts, pointers, experience would be fantastic. Thank you!

You can do a one year PGDE (post graduate diploma in education). The official deadline is mid-January but I have heard of people being accepted after that if there are spaces. I would strongly recommend you get some experience observing in a few secondary schools in different areas.
