Saw an interesting job, but not sure I was qualified (specific point not in the spec but when I looked into the documentation on school website). So I emailed the Head to ask if it was worth applying, mentioning that point. Got a lovely email back from deputy asking for a phone chat. Good chat, he seemed pleased with some of the skills I had and said, it was worth applying - he and head had spoken, and the drawback was not a showstopper. So applied day before deadline, had email ack to say they would be in contact in due course. 10 days has passed, past the time they had said they would be interviewing, and not a rejection or invite to interview. What does this mean? They seemed polite, so would not think they would just not let unsuccessful candidates know.
Am wondering if they are interviewing the best candidates, but keeping others (me) in reserve in case best turn them down. is this possible? Don't want to chase them yet....

Why not just ring them? I don't think that's presumptious

We don't ever let unsuccessful candidates know, it would be far to time consuming. Although I think our adverts say only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

Thanks! Will assume was not successful - may ring them but prob will just leave it. Was a long shot anyway and at least it got me focused on getting CV ready so am now ready to pounce if I see an oppo I like the look of (NQT).
