Expectations of parent class rep

Just wondered if you could advise what your expectations are of your parent class rep? I presume that most classes have them and that they are proactive in supporting the teachers in relaying info and organising parent get togethers. Ours seems not to get involved in either, in fact has very little presence. She is giving up the role and I'm thinking of volunteering, but would like to hear from you on what your rep does for the class and what you expect. Thanks
