Pampers commercial during ITV1 William and Kate Documentary

Did anyone else notice this rather repulsive advert during the Kate and William documentary last night? They had a voiceover saying "all little girls dream of being a princess one day, but we all know that to do that they need to get a good nights sleep!" while showing lots of baby girls in their cots wearing Pampers nappies. I was so angry. I'm not a militant feminist by any means, but I have a baby girl and the LAST thing I would want her to be when she grows up is a princess, and if, when she started talking, she said that all she wanted to be when she grows up is a princess, I would explain to her what that actually meant. Did Emily Wilding Davison throw herself under a horse so that we can teach our little babies this nonsense? Please someone tell me I haven't gone mad.

I didnt see it but I think you're being a bit OTT.

  1. its aimed at parents buying the nappies, not the baby girls watching tv.

  2. LOADS of little girls say they want to be princesses (I did when I was young) but they of course dont carry on believing that into their teens/20s.

I saw it and also thought it was a bit naff. i suppose now that wills is marrying a commoner we are going to be bombarded with television programmes (bbc3's how to nab a prince) and these sorts of advertising campaigns encouraging young girls or ambitious middle class social climbing mums to think that it could happen to them, (if only they used pampers nappies!!!!) haha, which i think is extremely depressing. like a sort of royal version of x-factor and britain's got talent. awful awful awful
