It makes sense though as Camilla is 'only' a Duchess - she's never been given the title Princess of Wales.

Equally the rules of precendence for royalty and for women are relatively well established. Women who hold rank in their own right trump those who married into it.

Most families have their own rules about who greets granny first (or is just my DH's family?!). This is just elevating it to an art form Grin

They are not a normal family though. If you marry into them you know what to expect. I would run a mile!

My FIL explained it once in relation to saluting in the armed forces.

You salute as a mark of respect to the position not the person in the position.

I am sure that in private the Royal Family act like any other family.

according to that article, they actually CARE about it! Loons!

I wouldn't either. Would rather not meet them if the deal was that I would have to curtsey.

BB - I know it is meant to be the position not the person, and that seems almost reasonable in the case of the actual queen on formal occasions (though the Prime Minister has a position but you don't curtsey to him), but minor royals curtseying to each other is taking it a bit far, no?

Camilla is the Princess of Wales but she just doesn't use the title to avoid upsetting the sensibilities of Daily Mail/Daily Express readers.

As it is, people who are HRH do not curtsey to each other, only to the Queen, so the article is a bit of nonsense.

I'd like it if more people curtseyed to me.

I agree sue
I am going to break it to the children. I think they need to address me with a decent title too. Something with due respect.
Good morning oh Beloved Mama
DH could have Maginificent Scrote

so Pag and Sue - are you going to introduce lots of other unreasonable rituals? Like the table has to be cleared as soon as you have finished eating even if you're the fastest eater?

Well, as a Royal Single Parent (me, Fergie and Lady Di so far), there's only me to clear it anyway. So yes. Or no, depending on how I feel Xmas Grin

Gangly's right - HRHs don't curtsey to each other, only to HM.
