The litter tray

The amount my cat eats is beyond a joke

It's fair to say he's always been a 'meaty' cat; I got him from a rescue centre four years ago and he'd been there for quite a long period (a year or thereabouts) so he hadn't had very much exercise.

He's a lovely cat but he just never seems to reject food, stop eating or pestering for food. He was out last night (his choice, we don't live near a road) and woke me up at 3 am yowling to come in (it's a bungalow) and as soon as I let him in he was pestering for food. I gave him a pouch and went to bed. Since then he's got through FOUR pouches! DP gave him one when he got up not realising he'd been fed then I gave him one without knowing DP had done so. Then, he hoovered up what our other two cats hadn't finished Hmm

He has no health problems - he had a recent check up at the vets to unblock his anal glands (!) and other than that he was fine so I don't know what it is but I'm being driven mad! I feel like all he does is EAT and it costs a fortune.

Has anyone else ever had a cat like this?

My cat is very greedy.

We put it down to her being kicked out of her home when she was a kitten and being made to live outside for a year before we had her.

Every meal could be her last, I think is how she sees it!

She is wormed and healthy but will eat anything. When we first got her she ate a couple of chocolate croissants that were left and wrapped in a plastic bag.

What weight is he? Some cats just don't know when to stop.

Many, many owners mistake their cat attempting to socialise with them as asking for food. You need to know what his correct daily intake should be and then harden your heart.
If I feed the tail less wonder every time she miaowed I would be feeding her all day, in fact she is a very social cat who adores a good chat.

:) Lone

I don't know about the socialisation, he's a very sociable cat, loves sitting on people's knees, sleeps in our bed and so on. I had a recent bereavement and he was so lovely as I'd go to sleep and wake up to him purring and it just made me feel calm. So he gets plenty of fuss!

But he charges towards his bowl and miaows constantly until he's fed - so annoying!

And then you give in and dole out more nosh, eh? He's not daft.

Our cat was like this, whined constantly for food. She was a rescue cat too although she is now slightly overweight.

we only feed her twice a day however much she whinges, and she now seems to accept this and is less likely to hassle us for food outside of mealtimes. Either that or she is getting well fed by all of our neighbours.

Both of mine are/were like this.. only Portia would nag for food, take a few nibbles and walk off. Morph on the other hand would 'chirp' behind anyone who ventured to the kitchen, eat his food, eat the rest of hers, and then snoop about for any of ours.

She weighs 3kg. At his peak (he was a HUGE Maine Coon) he weighed 10kg (!!!) and he never looked fat.. just a huge beast of a boy.

I always have some dry food (Iams or Science plan ) but still get nagged. Some cats are just greedier than others..like people I guess!

  • soft touch here and I sometimes buy fresh prawns to appease Queen Portia....

(I don't just feed dry I mean.. this is in addition to the umpteen pouches they get through a day!)
