The litter tray

Where is best for bulk buying cat meat and is Felix well regarded?

Due to the arrival of Olive, who eats like there's no tomorrow, and my stupidity regarding the farm cat, I am now feeding four cats. My cat food bill seems to have jumped dramatically. Ugh!
Anyone know where I can buy both biscuits and meat in bulk for a reasonable price? Also, mine seem to be mad about Felix at the moment. It does smell "nice" (for cat food!) but is it nutritionally sound?

Fcat will eat felix like there's no tomorrow too, they must put cat crack in it.

You can join costco, teachers are on their list of professionals who get trade membership of £25 a year.

Pretty sure they do whiskas, felix and big bags of their own brand biscuits.

Who's the farm cat then? Is he tired of being a farm cat and looking for a home?

I can join Costco?
GET THE F IN!
Do they do cheap alcohol? And diet coke? And stationery? (What a horrible summary of my life those 3 questions were.)
I think there's one in Newcastle, will look!
The farm cat is a beautiful tortie cat who lives on my landlord's farm opposite me and has just had kittens on the farm somewhere, despite my best efforts to lure her into my duvet clad shed.

She's not in the best of health and has taken to waiting for me in my yard. Have to give her a big bowlful as I see her sitting for ages on the silage bales and not catching anything.... Sad

Yes to coke, sometimes the booze is good, not looked at stationary.

It's good for taking stuff back when it breaks after two years.

Tbh with the supermarket offers so good & aldi I don't go anymore.

It's good if you like branded cleaning products, I don't because of animal testing.

Poor cat must be exhausted feeding kittens, I read lactating cats can eat 12 pouches a day but I'm not sure how true it is.

Gratuitous Olive shot. Why does she suck my ear like this??? She's also kneading so I'm assuming a comfort thing?!

Oh my god, 12 pouches?
Well, ill stock up on tins. I've been giving her most of a tin at a time, tbh.

Do not bulk buy cat food

The second you do, the contrary buggers decide they will absolutely not, under any circumstances, eat that food ever again Grin

CatKisser · 23/07/2014 22:43

Pfft! They've never had an aversion to any meat ever, but I bet you're right! Grin

I get the boxes of 44 Felix pouches at Costco and their enormous sacks of cat biscuits. None of the cats I've had have ever turned their noses up at these delights Grin

Thanks!
Never used zooplus but that looks a very good website...
Pesto - Is there any reason you prefer pouches over tins? I've found is works out quite a lot dearer, but then pouches mean you dont have half full tins sitting around, i guess.

Zooplus are pretty good - my cats like the Smilla biscuits.

Costco are a good 'reliable' source of Felix for a reasonable price, but if you have a variety of supermarkets nearby you can probably get as good a deal there by shopping around. Pets at Home are currently doing Felix AGAIL pouches at 3 for £9 which is slightly cheaper than the Costco mega packs.

If you're after normal felix rather than AGAIL, Sainsburys have the mega packs on a 2-fer www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/wet-cat-food/felix-mixed-selection-pouches-44x100g

Our cat turns his nose up at Felix. He actually loves the Aldi cat food which is half the price so we don't need to buy in bulk for the saving.

I like pouches as they take up less room than tins and they are only one serving per pouch. Meaning we don't have 1/2 eaten tins filling up the fridge.

Tins are certainly more economical than pouches, especially with multiple cats.

Zooplus is fab for stocking up and you can buy a discount voucher to use for all your purchases all year saving you money.

The animonda carny linked to by kaffiene (great name) is a great grain free food, & certainly economical. Butchers classic is another brand to recommend.

I wouldn't feed Felix because of the low meat content and grain included as low nutritional fillers. Just like giving your kids fast food daily. Especially when there are good value alternatives.

There are good grain free dry foods available at zooplus as well.

Good brands include Applaws, Orijen, Purizon,Acana and Taste of the wild.

They may appear expensive at first ,but you should find your cats eat slightly less as the high protein satisfies them. Lower nutritional foods ie Whiskas /Felix require the cat to eat more food to get the nutrition required.
And not surprisingly the cat is soon hungry again.

Some foods also contain sugars, causing tooth decay. Check for added sugars.

Grain (maize/corn/wheat) is not needed by cats as they are obligate carnivores. So we are paying good money for something to pad out the food, and for the cats to poo out more often. Getting no nutrition from it and making the litter box stink.

Cat-boy turned his nose up at Felix on the day he arrived. He instead wolfed down all of Cat-Girls (Animonda Carny) food. There's not much meat in Felix (about 4%).

Also, what is this obsession with pouches (especially with multiple cats)?
For my 2 I'd use 3 - 4 pouches with every feed - thats a lot of plastic and opening stuff for no good reason. Get tinned food and some of these:

Sorry for drip feeding... (no pun intended)
Felix: think 2 pouches @ 100gr per cat per feed = £0.45
200 gr Animonda Carny = £0.48 (400gr Tins, Multipack)

Bozita is another grain free good food, available from zooplus and fabulously priced.

When there are foods like these, I wonder how whiskas/felix/kitekat etc even have a market left.

Er - you know she's suckling your ear, right?
Maybe she was taken from her mum too young, or maybe she just likes it.

And to answer your question OP is Felix well regarded.

The answer is no, by anyone who has researched cat food or learnt to read ingredients lists.

As listed previously, there are other foods similarly priced that would be in the queue well before Felix.

Lots to think about here, thanks. Must admit - I've never considered buying what I'd perceive as "expensive food." When I get paid I think I'll venture online and buy a small quantity to begin with and see how it goes down.

Iscream gross! Well she won't find much milk in there? She was taken from mum too early though - I found her in a rainstorm by the side of the road at 4 weeks of age.

I just had a quick peek at prices and Bozita in tins(400g) and Animonda carny are around the same price per kilo as Felix. So there is no overpriced food apart from Felix- because I don't know how they can justify charging those prices for what is essentially crap cat food.

My in laws fed our cats some felix when we were away once. I recon they ate double the amount and wow the little box was awful. I really recommend the carny one. bonzita had too much jelly for mine. Applelaws is lovely but very expensive in comparison.
